Restaurant Service Opinions

http://boss.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/10/29/one-hundred-things-restaurant-staffers-should-never-do-part-one/

I have some comments about this blog and since on that blog they are no longer excepting comments, I would like to see if anyone agrees or disagrees with the comments I have for it

I agree with these:

“24. Never use the same glass for a second drink.”

YET, servers all the time pour tea from the pitchers when they can get you a fresh glass with FRESH ICE(not watered down) and not some tea in the glass sweetened already.  The servers should get you a new slice of lemon(if you want lemon with your tea that is), served ONLY on the rim of the glass NOT EVER in the glass as the seeds can come loose in the tea,  and a new glass of tea.  NEVER should the server pour at your table, especially risking spilling it on the table.

Also, even for soft drinks, sometimes some dumb servers take your glass, meanwhile you have NOTHING to drink(not even to sip on your ice) in the middle of eating or whatever.  HOW DUMB can you get? Save glasses to clean, but at what COST? The customer has NO DRINK in the meantime to drink.

A lot of servers today do NOT think like a CUSTOMER at all.  They want to take the lazy way out.

“10. Do not inject your personal favorites when explaining the specials.”

Don’t tell me your favorites, because I could care less unless I ask first.

“21. Never serve anything that looks creepy or runny or wrong.”

Yet, you get dumb servers that actually serve you the completely wrong food or things that don’t LOOK right. I even received extremely overdone fries(general manager agreed with me they looked a bit too overdone) from another manager.  I told him WHY would a MANAGER of all people serve me overdone fries like that.  They don’t think about “Would YOU EAT IT?”  They just hurry up to fix the mistake not thinking about that the mistake isn’t fully fixed if they mess up something that wasn’t messed up, which the fries weren’t messed up, but I wanted them to cook another batch of fries, because by the time they remade the sliders, my fries would have been cold.

“40. Never say, “Good choice,” implying that other choices are bad.”

That one ANNOYS me to no END.  Once I had a waitress at Applebee’s say “GOOD CHOICE” when I ordered their perfect margarita.  For one, I have had it before many of times, so I already know it’s a GOOD CHOICE in my opinion.  Secondly, I could really care LESS what my server’s opinion about what I order is unless I ASK THEM.  Thirdly, it wastes TIME that you could just be getting my order.  Fourthly, it’s just annoying for a STRANGER of all people to put their opinions into my ordering process if I don’t want it.

“43. Never mention what your favorite dessert is. It’s irrelevant.”

I HATE it when servers have said to us before “That’s my favorite.”  WHO CARES? It’s the CUSTOMER taste that matters here, so unless the customer ASKS for their server’s opinion on something, PLEASE don’t waste our time telling us NON-SENSE

“44. Do not discuss your own eating habits, be you vegan or lactose intolerant or diabetic.”

My server’s problems or preferences have NOTHING to do with what “I” want, so I don’t want to know unless I ask.

“18. Know before approaching a table who has ordered what. Do not ask, “Who’s having the shrimp?”’

As long as it’s your server, but you cannot expect another server to know WHO had what.  If you took the order, I FULLY AGREE all it takes is to verify that pad of paper by listing which person at which chair got what.

“48. Do not ask what someone is eating or drinking when they ask for more; remember or consult the order.”

You should KNOW since you HOPEFULLY WROTE IT DOWN to not ask such a stupid question appearing LAZY and UNCARING to the customer.

“49. Never mention the tip, unless asked.”

Of course, what kind of server would mention the tip except those that ask if you want change?

“35. Do not eat or drink in plain view of guests.”

Once we got overcharged a wrong price and to know that we saw our waitress EATING.  To think, she could have found this mistake BEFORE we even got our food(it was a soft drink that was the wrong price) and gotten it fixed by her manager BEFORE she gave us our check.  She got 11% instead of 20%.  To see how a server has time for herself to EAT, but NOT time for her JOB, that made her tip much less than if I would have not seen her eat on the job. While I fully understand no breaks servers have, we don’t want to be overcharged either and our money is JUST AS IMPORTANT as THEIRS as well as our TIME.

I disagree with the following:

“17. Do not take an empty plate from one guest while others are still eating the same course. Wait, wait, wait.”

I have read some of the comments that people agree with this, but WHY? If they can get things out the way of another guest that is finished, WHAT is the problem of it honestly? I would PREFER if the server would take my husband’s finished plate(he’s a faster eater than I am) than to leave it sit smelling left over food bits or leftovers while I am eating and he has more room on the table to maneuver.

“14. When you ask, “How’s everything?” or “How was the meal?” listen to the answer and fix whatever is not right.”

While I fully AGREE with fixing the problem if the customer wants it fixed that is(may not be worth their wait), but to not include that you should APOLOGIZE whether it is your fault or not was left out.

“2. Do not make a singleton feel bad. Do not say, “Are you waiting for someone?” Ask for a reservation. Ask if he or she would like to sit at the bar.”

I 100% disagree with asking if they want to sit at the bar, because if they wanted to sit at the bar, they would have not even gone to the host or hostess’s stand.  By asking that, that just makes the person feel WORSE that they are all alone and that they don’t deserve a table.  If I wanted to sit at the bar, I would have.  NEVER A NEED TO EVER ASK SUCH A RUDE THING!!

“4. If a table is not ready within a reasonable length of time, offer a free drink and/or amuse-bouche. The guests may be tired and hungry and thirsty, and they did everything right.”

NEVER had that happen before and NO RESTAURANTS HAVE EVER DONE THAT BEFORE for me and my husband!! I don’t think a business should give things for free just because the table wasn’t ready at the time it was supposed to be.

What do you all think about my comments? If you disagree or agree, please tell me WHY.

You seem to be very particular about the service you receive. I’d be willing to bet you rarely leave a restaurant happy. If you have never served a day in your life then you have no grounds to critique and complain about this in such an elaborate manner. Customers like you are why servers hate their job, no matter what we do or how hard we try you a rarely satisfied with the service and you always try to find something wrong with your experience.

You may need to take a closer look at yourself because you seem like a very unhappy person, and that is just sad. No one needs to be that unhappy in life. Cheer up, cook at home for a change.

    • springs1 Says:

” If you have never served a day in your life then you have no grounds to critique and complain about this in such an elaborate manner.”

YES I DO WHEN I KNOW HOW TO DO THE JOB *********BETTER********** THAN THEY DO, EVEN KNOW MORE THAN THE MANAGERS EVEN.

I SURE AS HELL DO!! I HAVE A LOT OF GROUNDS WHEN I CAN TELL THE SERVER WHAT THEY DID WRONG WHEN THEY HANDED ME THE FOOD WITHOUT ME TOUCHING IT OR MY BILL, DUHHHH!!

“Customers like you are why servers hate their job, no matter what we do or how hard we try you a rarely satisfied with the service and you always try to find something wrong with your experience.”

NO, servers like you are just TOO LAZY to do the job correctly and too UNCARING,,LAZY as well as VERY UNFAIR to go in the ORDER in which people’s turns came in.

I am not rarely satisfied. I am satisfied a lot of times.

I don’t find something wrong, *THEY* do it to themselves. I don’t control every move the server makes.

    • yudelnoodle Says:

You have no idea how to be a server. Try serving and I bet you will be singing a different tune by the end of your first shift.

      • springs1 Says:

        yudelnoodle

You have no idea how to be a server.

YOU OBVIOUSLY DON’T! I sure as hell DO KNOW! WHERE ARE YOU GETTING THIS FROM, HUH?

Try serving and I bet you will be singing a different tune by the end of your first shift.

NO, I wouldn’t, because I know what it’s like to be that customer and there’s NO WAY IN FUCKING HELL I WOULD THINK *****************ANY********************** DIFFERENTLY, because I am *NOT* LAZY AND UNCARING LIKE THE LIKES OF YOU!!

      • yudelnoodle Says:

You have never been served by me so how do you know? You assume to be all knowing about the industry when you are not.

  2. Josh Jack Says:

You seem to spend a lot of your time browsing the internet to find blog posts about the service industry to tear down, that to me is a sign of an unhappy person.

    • springs1 Says:

“that to me is a sign of an unhappy person.”

NO, I am VERY HAPPY. I am just tired of uncaring, lazy servers of this world, that’s all.

“mean, no one can make an honest mistake.”

I NEVER said a honest mistake, I said for the servers that do NOT TRY THEIR BEST such as not writing down things or comparing their written orders to the food.

“Everyone can remember twenty to thirty requests at a time and never forget.”

No one is supposed to be remembering ANYTHING, because they are supposed to be WRITING DOWN ********ALL********* REQUESTS, ******ALL******** OF THEM. That’s what trying your best is to at least write it down and then reread what you wrote down. You don’t need to remember anything if you reread your written lists, do you?

“Because then, you would look like a hypocrite!”

NO, because this is about servers that DO NOT TRY THEIR BEST and it is also about putting blame on the wrong people the majority of the time. Most of the time when you wait a long time for your food, it IS your server’s fault in general.

  3. A Says:

Seeing as how you have been deleted from my friends blog, I will reply to your comment here. First of all, 1 thing I will agree with you on is that things should be the way the customer orders them and the server does have some control over wether it comes out right IF they are the one to bring it out themselves. I am a good server, none of this crap you are complaining about applies to me and it pisses me off that you want to say all servers are the same basically and put us down like we’re less of a person than you. 2nd, it was very unnecessary to progress to attacking me personally with your namecalling… so Im stupid and ignorant huh? Well lets see.. I AM a server, and I am quite often a customer, therefore I see it from both sides and you dont. You think you know everything? Maybe in your own delusional world you do… I feel bad for your husband, he must be blind, deaf, and dumb to be married to someone as rude and pathetic as you… what was God thinking when he created such a waste of flesh…You must be very insecure and have absolutely no life to spend so much time arguing and putting people down on the internet… but unlike you, I actually have a life, so Im done. Have a nice day! =)

    • springs1 Says:

      A
“IF they are the one to bring it out themselves.”

As far as condiments on the side whether in ramekins or bottles, that’s 100% NOT TRUE, because they can bring out that stuff ***AHEAD*** OF TIME no matter *WHO* brings out the food.

The rest of the stuff, it’s true unless your server put in the order wrong.

“2nd, it was very unnecessary to progress to attacking me personally with your namecalling”

I NEVER wrote someone named “A”. If you are “Anonymous” which one are you and HOW would I know who you are?

“I AM a server, and I am quite often a customer, therefore I see it from both sides and you dont.”

If you did, you wouldn’t say things like “IF they are the one to bring it out themselves”, because most of the issues I have had have been with condiments missing.

You obviously aren’t a customer with problems very often, otherwise you wouldn’t have this attitude.

“to someone as rude and pathetic as you…”

I am not rude and I am not pathetic either, because that’s *YOU* someone that doesn’t know that you can bring condiments out ahead of time to AVOID another server or yourself from forgetting them.

      “You must be very insecure”

YOU must be to write me.

“have absolutely no life to spend so much time arguing and putting people down on the internet…”

I have a life. I choose to spend time on a hobby just as you are. Obviously, *YOU* have no life either spending it talking to me and your friend’s blog. LOOK IN THE MIRROR NEXT TIME BEFORE YOU SAY SOMETHING!!

“I am a good server, none of this crap you are complaining about applies to me”

So you’ve NEVER put in an order wrong, EVER? You have NEVER ONCE FORGOTTEN SOMETHING? You NEVER forgot to put in an order? You have NEVER messed up anything ever? EVERYONE HAS, EVERYONE!!

“it pisses me off that you want to say all servers are the same basically and put us down like we’re less of a person than you. ”

But A LOT of times I prove I know MORE than the servers and MANAGERS even about the menu *&* about how to do the job correctly, otherwise, I wouldn’t be complaining, now would I? My stuff would be correct 99% of the time instead it’s wrong around 80% of the time.

      • howtobeagoodserver.com Says:

But you don’t know because you have never worked as a server before. It kills me that you don’t get this at all.

      • springs1 Says:

“But you don’t know because you have never worked as a server before.”

What do I don’t know? I know MUCH MORE than most servers and managers how to do the job and the menu. WHY? Because I have EXPERIENCED these things. You just don’t understand until *YOU* are the*CUSTOMER*, because obviously you haven’t proven wrong things on a MENU or a SIGN or have proven how you knew how to do the job BETTER than the servers and you know it!!

      • springs1 Says:

        Another thing,

“It kills me that you don’t get this at all.”

It kills me to see that you want to have CONTROL over something that isn’t *YOUR* decision.

  4. A Says:

Thereagain, all restaurants are different and do things a different way… where I work, we dont bring out the condiments BEFORE the meal arrives.. it is brought out together.. and no, I dont forget. And no, I dont mess up my orders.. and no, I am not some crappy diner type waitress which is what you seem to be talking about… I’ve never had a single complaint about me or about anything that was my fault. Probably hard for you to believe seeing as how you think ALL servers suck and are stupid and lazy… see why I take offense? No, you probably dont, because you’re incapable of seeing anyones point but your own… And Im pathetic because I dont know to bring out condiments ahead of time? THAT makes someone ‘pathetic’? HAHA! And like I said… not the way things are done where I work.
And Im insecure to be writing you? Um, ok, who is the one who started verbally attacking who? Forgive me for being the type to defend myself…especially over something that was completely uncalled for. If your hobby is going blog to blog and complaining about servers, then I seriously think you need a new hobby..

    • springs1 Says:

“Thereagain, all restaurants are different and do things a different way… where I work, we dont bring out the condiments BEFORE the meal arrives.. it is brought out together”

YOU CAN IF YOU ********WANT TO IDIOT***********!!

The restaurant doesn’t forbid you, because I KNOW, when I ask for my servers to do it, THEY DO IT!!

I have also have had many servers do it without me asking.

“And Im pathetic because I dont know to bring out condiments ahead of time? THAT makes someone ‘pathetic’? HAHA! ”

YES, that you aren’t making sure the customer has what they need.

“And like I said… not the way things are done where I work.”

They CAN IF YOU WANT THEM TO BE IDIOT. NO ONE MAKES YOU NOT DO THAT STUPID ASS LAZY IDIOT!!

“I am not some crappy diner type waitress which is what you seem to be talking about”

We have had bad service at FINE DINING restaurants as well.

“I’ve never had a single complaint about me or about anything that was my fault.”

That doesn’t mean you are PERFECT that you NEVER did anything wrong nor does it mean the customer isn’t thinking something bad either that they aren’t complaining to you, they are keeping it to themselves.

      • Ech Says:

no you horrible, worthless piece of simian flesh, the restaurant industry doesn’t work that way. See, restaurants are a business and businesses have policies and rules. MANY fine dining and semi-fine dining establishment require that the servers take the order by memory. It is mandatory and, no, no one is going to put their job at risk to cater to your ridiculous, petty, childish demands. And here I thought all of the descriptions about you were exaggerated.

      • springs1 Says:

no you horrible, worthless piece of simian flesh, the restaurant industry doesn’t work that way

It works the way I TELL them to if they want my money IDIOT! I RULE THE SHOW, NOT ANYONE ELSE! MY MONEY RULES YOU! Why are you calling me horrible and a worthless piece of simian flesh, huh? I am not a bad person and I am VERY NICE compared to you.

See, restaurants are a business and businesses have policies and rules. MANY fine dining and semi-fine dining establishment require that the servers take the order by memory. It is mandatory and, no, no one is going to put their job at

I haven’t seen one yet that makes their servers not write orders down and I have been to a bunch of them. It doesn’t matter what the owner wants since they aren’t *PAYING* for the service. If they want it that way, *THEY* should pay for my service, GOT IT?

risk to cater to your ridiculous, petty, childish demands.

Nothing is ridiculous to satisfy the customer in *ANY* way they want to if you want their money. NOTHING is petty about trying your best to remember what was said. NOTHING is a demand unless you ask in a mean manner. Anyone that says “demands” is lazy, because there are none if the customers ask NICELY for what they want. You sound very lazy to say such a thing.

Omg, your like a yappy little dog that doesn’t have sense enough to shut up. I bet your husband is miserable. I was bored so I read some of your ramblings/blog. You seem to enjoy name calling, and driving your point home to the point of absurdity. You truly sound like a miserable person to be around.

So anyway, I’m done, and you’ll remain clueless as to how you come across to others.

    • springs1 Says:

“Omg, your like a yappy little dog that doesn’t have sense enough to shut up.”

You are just MADDDDD THAT I PROVED YOU ALL THE FUCK WRONG ASSHOLES!! FUCK YOU!!

Lol. Thank you for proving my point.

  7. Curiouser and curiouser Says:

Wow…. some of your points are right, some are kinda weird, but overall you’re kinda uber-religious about this… I mean I wouldn’t get that angry about it if they peed in my cheerios….

  8. Ryan Says:

Just caught your multi-page rant on the CNN article.

You seem like a miserable person, and I’ve seen customers like you a thousand times before. No seasoning on the fries, apocalyptic rage because you had the wrong side dish on your plate, photographic memory of everyone who’s “done you wrong” in the past.

The likelihood is that you don’t get good service because the servers recognize you. Secretly, they hope you leave and never return because caring for you is simply a waste of time. Because you’re a bad person.

Maybe you should try making your own damned food if you’re getting this angry about onion rings. You’ll probably live longer… and based on what I know about your ordering habits you’re probably old enough to have to worry about that kind of thing these days.

Hopefully, you wise up and calm down before you die of old age.

You seem VERY UNCARING and UNSYMPATHETIC, WHY is that, huh? I bet there are things important to you that I could care less about.

“The likelihood is that you don’t get good service because the servers recognize you. Secretly, they hope you leave and never return because caring for you is simply a waste of time. Because you’re a bad person.”

HOW am “I” a bad person when *I* STILL TELL THEM “THANK YOU” WHEN THEY HAVE NOT EVEN SAID THEY WERE SORRY WHEN THEY HAVE MESSED UP, HUH?

That’s a MUCH BETTER HUMAN BEING THAN THEY ARE, THAT’S FOR SURE to be NICER than they are to us.

How is it a waste of time if I tip 30% and UP for WONDERFUL SERVICE, HUH? Obviously, it’s not to those servers that bust their ass for us, is it? Maybe it’s because the world of servers like yourself are just too LAZY AND UNCARING to do the job PROPERLY. You do the job HALF-FAST, you get a half-fast tip.

WHY are you so UNCARING, HUH? I don’t get it, I REALLY DON’T?

    • springs1 Says:

Another thing, maybe you should *TRY HARDER* as a server if you are a server to GET the GOOD TIP.

If they brought me a plate with the wrong side dish and didn’t compare their written order to the food, do you think that shows “CARING”, huh? It’s BEING LAZY AND SELFISH. You don’t see that? You don’t get the tip for just bringing me shit IDIOT. You get it because you *********EARNED******* IT by SHOWING YOU ********CARE********** about the customer instead of just YOUR LAZY ASS, UNCARING SELF!! It’s not a mistake if you didn’t even *TRY* to get it right, is it?

    • springs1 Says:

“You seem like a miserable person,”

You seem like an UNCARING, LAZY person that only cares about themself.

See, if I were a server, I’d check the plate *BEFORE* leaving the kitchen. Not only would it get a better tip if I got the order right with the correct side dish or no seasoning on the fries, but it would make me have less trips, which is better for not only me, but for the rest of my customers that need me as well.

I am not uncaring like the likes of you! I am not lazy like you are.

      • Philip Says:

        Spring1,
your absolutely right in certain area’s of Service Etiquette, but I feel strongly your wrong in your opinion. Yes, i know your opinion.
Most Restaurants under coaching, guidelines and company polices corporate wide ask that certain applications apply to how the guest is served.
I read your Ice Tea story. Leaving the guest without a beverage to drink but only to sip on melted Ice. LOL!!! It is OUR job to insure your Ice Tea is filled BEFORE it hits below 50% quantity. If we do not have the time, we ask our team mates for help because we are doing the same for fellow servers and the help the Guest may need.
You are not a customer. You are a guest. We will do our ultimate best to satisfy your visit with us. Customer is more the McDonald’s and Taco Bell Genre.
Food leaving the kitchen. I dont know what restaurant’s have their servers memorizing their ticket orders but i for one used to do that and have made MANY errors in past times. It is encouraged we write, and repeat the order back to the guest to make sure everything is correct. Your stand on saying servers are selfish, lazy and ignorant, stupid, etc. is appalling. On our part, a mishap. Even careless. But all that you label the majority servers who really do care??? Come on Spring1, that’s not fair, nor cool. You state you know so much about the Restaurant industry because you are the guest and you pay out of your pocket. And that justifies your experience to knowing how the restaurant works, HOW SO????
I work in the state of California. There are ALOT of really awesome bartenders, servers, bussers, host’s and sales personnel that do what they are asked to do. Would you like to be seated at the bar while you wait for your party? Because you are alone? NO!!!! Because there are party animals there AT the bar that would definitely make your night awesome or rarely, not good. To ask that, is not being rude. Its an offer. Take it as you will. But with no regards to your being alone or trying to be rude. NOT AT ALL. If you dont want to know the server’s favorite meal, or favorite dessert, than make it clear from the get go. We are encouraged to offer what WE like, WHAT we know after, ” Reading ” the guest what we feel may satisfy them. And you know what? If they dont like it, …….” Let me fix that. What can i offer you, that does sound great? ” I roughly serve 500 people a day, both my Team and I. And everyday there are for SURE many that have shared or disagree with your stance on the Service Industry. But overall, if you are not happy at all about it, TALK to YOUR Server. Hey, my food came out cold. I didnt get my mushrooms…etc. etc. You’ll know from the get go you got a bad server if he/she lets your Ice Tea slip to the bottom of the Ice. Because he/ she didnt ask for help to assist you. Didnt ask a manager to table touch you. Didnt acknowledge you, ill be right with you. I apologize.
Now the WORST part for you. If you ever came into a restaurant and treated any of the personnel as you do on the internet, Spring1 ( this is not a threat ) but there ARE people out there that would do you harm. Chill on the name calling. Relax. I read you ARE a happy person. And i see your married. If your truly a good person, how about you coaching the careless and lazy people ( yes, i failed to admit WE DO have lazy servers who dont last long ) about what’s going on. and your IDEAS on fixing it. It IS YOUR opinion that you FEEL you as a paying guest can DIRECT us what to do. You are absolutely wrong. You may ask, you may politely issue what you need or want. You may not talk to us as if we are your servants. That will not stand with many and some will lose their jobs just by bashing your head into a table top or that psycho that has had enough of ” the bitchy guest “. but again, the ” right to refuse service ” and ” Please Leave or you will be escorted out by the Authorities for public misconduct or abuse of an employee will be fully exercised. Do your research and know you can be cited.

Your knowledgeable and wise in whatever year you are. Act on that and spread the word. Why incite hatred and anger?

“Most Restaurants under coaching, guidelines and company polices corporate wide ask that certain applications apply to how the guest is served.”

It doesn’t matter what the restaurant owners/corporate people want, it only matters what the *CUSTOMER* wants that is *PAYING* for the service. That’s right, the *SERVICE*, which is my *TIME* I am paying for. I am there on my time, my money. If you want it done your way, pay my tip, otherwise, I rule you, you don’t rule me. I get to say I want a new glass. I get to say I want coke instead of an iced tea this time.

Don’t you want what you want for *YOUR* money, huh? I do too then.

“I read your Ice Tea story.”

You didn’t read it very well obviously.

“It is OUR job to insure your Ice Tea is filled BEFORE it hits below 50% quantity”

It’s not your job to ensure it’s filled. It’s your job to do what *WE* ask of you to do, not what *YOU* and anyone else wants you to do. You refill my drink as I say to and ****HOW***** I say to in a NEW GLASS, NOT one that has old watery ice, old sweetner, and old tea in it.

“I dont know what restaurant’s have their servers memorizing their ticket orders but i for one used to do that and have made MANY errors in past times.”

I NEVER once said ANYTHING about memorizing. You might want to take some *TIME* to ******READ******* my blog. WHERE THE HELL did you get that one from? I have always said about comparing your *WRITTEN* ORDER to the food for obvious errors and if it’s not the server that took the order that brings out the food, then they can only go by the ticket or computer screen order. I am all for NEVER memorizing. I don’t want my server to memorize. I completely 100 BILLION PERCENT AGREE WITH YOU on the memorizing issue.

“Your stand on saying servers are selfish, lazy and ignorant, stupid, etc. is appalling.”

Why is it appalling when it’s the truth?

Majority yes. Do you compare the written orders to the food for obvious errors? Do you write down *ALL* request(boxes, bags, etc. that have been forgotten a lot of times from servers over the years). Do you compare the menu prices to the check prices so that you don’t overcharge the customer by if you find a problem you go to the manager to get it corrected?

Do you bring out non-bar drinks BEFORE bar drinks so the people that don’t want bar drinks don’t have to wait 10-15 minutes for something to drink?

“But with no regards to your being alone or trying to be rude. NOT AT ALL.”

I NEVER said it was stupid. READ, that’s right, READ, because you are making shit up I NEVER once said.

“If you dont want to know the server’s favorite meal, or favorite dessert, than make it clear from the get go.”

I don’t have to make anything clear, because it’s my tip money, my service, therefore, if I don’t want to waste it on your stupidity that 99% of servers don’t do, WHY should I assume you will do this to me, huh? I am not supposed to have to do what you want me to do for *MY* tip I am paying. When *YOU* pay the tip, *THEN* you can decide all you want, but until then, you are under MY RULES, NOT YOURS, NOT ANYONE ELSE’S BUT MINE! I personally would rather pay my tip and get to rule the service rather than save money so you can rule me. No way I want my server to rule me. I want what I want for my time. Even if that means hitting my pocketbook more.

You are not my ruler, my controller. I control you with my money(IF YOU WANT IT THAT IS). I tell you how to do something or not to do it or to do something. That’s the tip you want. If you don’t want my tip, fine, you won’t get it if you don’t do as I ask of you to do.

If I have to make it clear to tell you not to waste my time, I am already wasting time IDIOT! Seriously, the entire point was so you DON’T waste my time on that shit. STOP CONTROL FREAK TELLING US HOW TO SPEND OUR HARD EARNED MONEY!

“And you know what? If they dont like it, …….” Let me fix that. What can i offer you, that does sound great? ””

I do talk to the server, but most aren’t apologetic no matter how nice you are about the mistake and even times when they realize all on their own they forgot something, no sorry to speak of in most cases. Also, you can’t tell them everything, because most will be a bitch back. You start telling them every little thing they did wrong, they are mean and bitchy rather than apologetic, even blaming others. I had one waitress said “That’s the hostess’s job”, because I told her I had to ask for utensils twice when I listed everything she did wrong to her face because she was just so HORRIBLE. She didn’t admit fault or say she was sorry. She should have apologized the first time I had to ask for such a thing. It is her job. It is not the hostess’s job once I have gotten seated, it becomes the server’s job by then.

“If you ever came into a restaurant and treated any of the personnel as you do on the internet, Spring1 ( this is not a threat )”

I am not treating anyone poorly here. YOU ARE treating me poorly CONTROLLING my tip money telling me how to spend *MY* hard earned money. HOW DARE YOU! WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, GOD OR SOMETHING? It’s not your money, you have no RIGHTS to tell me how to spend it.

That means I don’t have to tell my server I don’t want their opinion, because it’s common sense if I did, I’d *ASK* for it, DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

That means if you give me a refill I don’t want, I can ask for a new glass if I choose to and in order to get a good tip, you have GOT to do that. If you don’t, I will call the manager to tell him or her you refused a simple request. There’s no need to refuse this. If I want a new glass rather than pouring in my old glass, I sure can have what I want, because my tip money is paying for it.

“It IS YOUR opinion that you FEEL you as a paying guest can DIRECT us what to do. You are absolutely wrong.”

I am not wrong. I NEVER said to be mean. WHERE in the WORLD are you getting that from, huh? I can direct you what to do *IF* that is you want my tip. It’s your choice to decide if I tell you I don’t want refills without asking, you are to abide by that, otherwise stiff is what you will get. You HAVE to do what I ask in order to get what I want. It’s like I am your boss holding the money, so do as I ask. I NEVER ONCE said I would be mean, NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER!

It is not an opinion, it’s a *FACT* that the customer’s tip money controls your behavior *IF* you want it that is. It’s all up to you if you want it or not. My tip money is what you want. You want something, I want something. Can’t we *EVENLY* TRADE? What’s wrong with that, huh? It is *FAIR*, so what’s the problem here, huh?

You haven’t *READ* a DARN THING I said. I said I didn’t want them pouring into my glass.I want a NEW glass. Also, WHO are you to tell me I want more tea. What if I want a bar drink or water or a coke or maybe don’t want anymore drink?

Here’s a server that disagrees with you:

        http://1000awesomethings.com/2008/06/30/994-waiters-who-bring-free-refills-without-asking/

“Ashley November 29, 2008 at 11:38 pm I too am a server and as part of training in the restaurant I work at, I was taught to ask before bringing a refill, because although they will drink it if it’s in front of them, some people dont actually want that whole other glass of pop, they might actually want water or an alcoholic beverage… so in asking you always make sure the customer is getting what they want. 🙂 ”

See, she’s willing to satisfy her *CUSTOMER*, NOT HERSELF OR ANYONE ELSE! They might want something else, WOW, WHAT A CONCEPT.

It’s not up to you to do anything in the service. The customer rules their tip money they are paying IF you want it that is. It’s common sense, you want their money, DUH, you do what ************THEY********** want you to do YOU STUPID IDIOT! YOU ARE DUMB!

    • springs1 Says:

What are you getting out of being MEAN AND UNCARING about customer’s orders being correct, huh? I don’t get it, I REALLY don’t?

    • springs1 Says:

      “Because you’re a bad person.”

HOW does it make me a “BAD PERSON” to want a CARING, CONSIDERATE HARD WORKER that isn’t lazy on the job, huh? That’s what you want too. You don’t want your order wrong either, just admit the truth!!

    • springs1 Says:

“You seem like a miserable person, and I’ve seen customers like you a thousand times before. No seasoning on the fries, apocalyptic rage because you had the wrong side dish on your plate, photographic memory of everyone who’s “done you wrong” in the past.”

Ryan, so you are saying something is wrong with wanting “CARING”, “CONSIDERATE”, and “NON-LAZY” service, huh?

You are saying that they should not *CARE* about our dining experience and we just care about that they only make $2.13/hr. That IS what you are saying.

“Maybe you should try making your own damned food if you’re getting this angry about onion rings”

Maybe those people that can’t get onion rings correct needs to go back to KINDERGARTEN and learn if the items on a plate match the words on the piece of paper, don’t ya think?

  9. Bonnie Frankum Says:

All I know is this: If I were a waitress and you came into my restaurant, I’d take a giant, steaming, sh!t on top of your entree. Wouldn’t even try to hide it. F*ck you and your paltry-ass tip. You’re a trailer trash cow.

    • springs1 Says:

      “You’re a trailer trash cow.”

I can’t be. We have a *BRICK HOUSE*, NOT a trailer you IDIOT!

Also, I am 98lbs-99lbs at 5’0″ tall. I am not fat. This must be *YOU* that’s fat and lives in a trailer, isn’t it and are just *********JEALOUS*************?

“I’d take a giant, steaming, sh!t on top of your entree.”

I’d report you and you’d get ARRESTED. See how this works, huh?

“F*ck you and your paltry-ass tip.”

What an UNAPPRECIATIVE person. I’d rather have a penny tip than no tip at all. What an ASSHOLE YOU ARE, FUCK YOU AND GET OFF MY BLOG, BITCH!! FUCK YOU!!

    • springs1 Says:

“You are so entertaining – my husband and I have really enjoyed laughing at you!”

You sound like a kid that’s just *JEALOUS* yourself that must be FAT and have a trailer, aren’t you?

  10. Marla Says:

There’s a Youtube channel called “Your Daily Tip” and it’s a vlog by a server. You may find it interesting.

    • springs1 Says:

“I happen to know about this because for a few years I was a server.”

I happen to know because *I* HAVE *******GONE THROUGH********* THE ISSUES AND I KNOW THAT MOST ISSUES YOU GO THROUGH THAT ARE WRONG HAVE TO DO WITH YOUR SERVER!!

“we don’t even notice when our server brings our food rather late. The few times food has been brought with an apology, we’ve shrugged it off. ”

So you don’t even KNOW where your money is going, HOW STUPID of you. You work or your husband works all week, for what, so some lazy, uncaring server will get a good tip no matter what, because you were too stupid to *PAY ATTENTION* if your server put in your order right after taking it as far as in a fair manner of course. That’s stupid of you.

YOU are contributing to bad service by not paying attention, do you realize that or what?

“There’s a Youtube channel called “Your Daily Tip” and it’s a vlog by a server. You may find it interesting.”

I already know about this and BEENNNN FOR YEARS. THIS IS OLD SHIT!! Seriously, you need to get with the times, for real!!

  11. Alice Stayouttamysection Says:

Perhaps you should just stick to cooking your own meals and serving yourself at home. If you ever sat at one of my tables you would be intentionally ignored, I could care less the repercussions. You are the type of person that I can tell how things are going to go before I even attempt to greet the table. I would accept my less than gracious tip, just so you would leave. Please stop dining out and wasting precious space of the people with common courtesy.

Perhaps you don’t want to be a server if you don’t want to **************WORK************* FOR YOUR MONEY!!

“If you ever sat at one of my tables you would be intentionally ignored, I could care less the repercussions”

I’d get you fired. Got 3 servers fired, WANT TO TRY ME? Even if you go work somewhere else, I’d get your fired there to.

WHY ARE YOU SO MEAN? WHY? YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW ME AND YOU ARE MEAN, WHY?

“You are the type of person that I can tell how things are going to go before I even attempt to greet the table.”

NO YOU DON’T. It’s up to *YOU* to make or break your tip, NOT ME!!

” I would accept my less than gracious tip, just so you would leave.”

Because you are TOO LAZY TO DO THE AMOUNT OF WORK!! LAZY YOU ARE, VERY LAZY!!

“Please stop dining out and wasting precious space of the people with common courtesy.”

I have common courtesy. YOU DON’T, THIS PROVES IT WITH YOUR POST HYPOCRITE!!

I won’t EVER STOP DINING OUT!!

  12. rick Says:

I’m not going to use profanity, I’m not going to antagonize you, and I’m not going to insult you. That being said… you’re STILL not going to like me after reading what I have to offer you.
All I perceive from you is a bunch of manic ranting and raving. Granted, it’s mainly in response to my colleagues who take genuine joy in provoking you. But as a suggestion it makes you come off as even more ignorant than you likely already are. And when one can only respond to an interrogative by immediately becoming wildly emotional and defensive, especially by using profane language, it’s an obvious indication of a lack of education beyond the sixth grade.
Why do you hate us so vehemently? We’re human beings- we make mistakes, we have emotions, and like much if not all of your everyday life we have a bad day from time to time. Yet you seem to completely despise us. Would you respond with similar venom if a friend or family member were your server? Are we as inferior in your eyes as a common subway rat?
Yes, you like everyone else are entitled to have a reasonable expectation of standards of service. Please note that I stated, “reasonable”, because after reading your diatribes and verbal diarrhea it’s readily apparent that your perception of reasonable is vastly different from the rest of common society. PLEASE, for the love of GOD, do us all a favor and STAY HOME. Stop patronizing our establishments, stop criticizing us about what we’re doing wrong and perhaps try and compliment us about what we’re doing right.
See? No profanity, no antagonizing, and no insulting. And yet I TOLD YOU that you wouldn’t like me after what I had to declare. Now I challenge you- can you respond in a similar logical, educated fashion?

    • springs1 Says:

      “we make mistakes,”

I am not talking about mistakes. I am talking about LAZINESS, LACKS OF EFFORT ON THE JOB.

It’s not a mistake if the server hands me the wrong side dish when they are my server that took my order when they didn’t compare their written order to the food, is it?

Things like that ARE NOT MISTAKES. A mistake is when you ******TRIED AND FAILED****, NOT when you haven’t tried at all.

When there’s a wrong overcharged price on my check. No servers so far have said they compared the menu prices to the check. If you don’t *TRY*, then HOW can you call it a “MISTAKE” when you didn’t try your best on purpose by being lazy, huh?

      “we have emotions,”

Then WHY don’t most servers say they are sorry when they mess up, huh?

I am NICE about the mistakes and they just are assholes about it. Once, a waitress forgot my husband’s side dish, which he NICELY told her and she just stood reading the ticket on the tray and LEFT with *****NO******** APOLOGY, NOT EVEN WHEN SHE CAME BACK THE UNCARING, UNFEELING BITCH.

You guys don’t look like you have feelings doing that shit.

I can’t count the number of times servers have not said they are sorry when they forget my condiments. It’s in the HUNDREDS most likely.

“everyday life we have a bad day from time to time”

You wouldn’t want us to put our bad day on you, so don’t do it to us. It’s that simple. If you have a bad day, you know you won’t make as much. Only caring about yourself should get you what you deserve.

      • rick Says:

Why do you A) feel the need to use such profanity when none is first directed at you (which is the case in some comments here), and B) neglect to use proper grammar, spelling, punctuation etc.? Again, you’re proving my hypothesis about your lack of education both in school and in life. I am completely capable of holding a rational, logical conversation here, yet you show all the social graces of a retarded duck. Here’s an example, if I may paraphrase one of your responses on another post: “Go fuck yourself”
How about this, some advice for you- go fornicate yourself with a red hot fireplace poker. Because if your husband is half as miserable as you are, it’s likely to be the most heat you’ve felt there in your life. Cheers, have a Happy Thansgiving and Merry Christmas! 🙂

  13. Concerned Says:

Ma’am, I am very sorry about saying something so unkind but you may be crazy. Really crazy. I have worked in a 24 hour restaurant for many years. I have waited on people that remind me a lot of you. Usually they blink very fast & often when ordering, often they twitch & repeat.
It seems most of your post are rants on condiments…mainly RANCH. I feel Ranch is your biggest concern & how much you receive is your biggest worry. I love it also but I just finished reading a blog you posted on “How to be a good server” & the words “condiments & ranch” were used so often I began to gag at the thought of my once favorite dressing. Most everything you had bitched about seemed over the top & crazy. I feel you were just thinking of anything possible to add in-between your Ranch rants. Best of luck to you. I hope one day you become mentally healthy & this obsession of condiments/Ranch will one day be under control.

You say I sound A LOT like A LOT of people you serve. So they are ALL CRAZY TOO? OBVIOUSLY, IT’S NORMAL SO STFU STUPID LAZY ASS BITCH!!

What is over the top? To want your server to **********EARN THEIR TIP************ TO *************WORK FOR THEIR TIP********** IS SOMEHOW AN UNREASONABLE EXPECTATION? WTF???? SERIOUSLY, **********YOU NEED MENTAL HELP, NOT ME LAZY BITCH!! FUCK YOU!!

  14. server not servant Says:

You came onto my blog and, for no reason that I can see, called me a lazy bitch. The blog was neither directed at you, sent to you, nor were you forced to read it. I suspect that you spend your days trolling the internet in search of unsuspecting people onto which you can unleash your entitled and brazenly misinformed psychosis. This makes you a troll. It makes you a very ugly troll at that.

I gather, from how much time you spend sitting on your ass trolling the internet/on your ass in restaurants, that I work much harder than you for every penny I make. This would, for all intents and purposes, make you the lazy one. It’s really easy work hiding behind a computer screen name-calling with a blanket of anonymity to shield you from any accountability. It’s much harder work serving stupid people like you. I am thankful that I have actual human beings as customers at my restaurant, which makes the 12 hour shifts on my feet, without a break, at least somewhat more tolerable.

So now we’ve rationally deduced that you are the lazy one (and you’ll like that, since lazy seems to be your favorite word.)

You are right about one thing, however. If a soul-less and mean-tempered cow like you walked into my restaurant I would be very ‘uncaring.’ I would be “uncaring” about your 10% pittance of a tip, and ask you to leave immediately. As they say, sometimes no amount of money is worth it. To pander to your ridiculous, ignorant, and self-loving standards of SERVITUDE (not serving, servitude… look it up), would be worth no amount of gold in this world. I suspect the owner, manager, and every other employee in the restaurant would agree with me, and perhaps even band together to escort your troll-ness out the front door.

One last thing, if I were you and I were releasing such insulting and callous pieces of “writing” onto the internet, I would first learn the basics of grammar, then I would learn to form full, functioning, sentences. This way at least you add some credibility to your ignorance by appearing mildly educated.

I hope to one day be served by you.

  15. Cedric Says:

Wow. I was linked here through a blog I follow and I have to say this blog is hilarious. And these comments are even better. I have never seen someone so quick to whip out the profanity, THE EXCESSIVE USE OF CAPS, and the personal attacks. If you are deliberately trying to be a troll, well done. If not, then you sound like a truly wretched person who enjoys making others miserable and I hope karma unloads a massive serving of food poisoning on you 🙂

    • springs1 Says:

“I hope karma unloads a massive serving of food poisoning on you :)”

Karma HOW? All I want is GOOD, CARING SERVICE, that’s it and I am willing to tip 25%-30% and upwards if you give that to me.

  16. Kelly Says:

I think that it’s sad that you are such a negative, unhappy person. (And I know that you will claim that you’re happy and fulfilled but let’s be serious, your blog is clear evidence to the contrary) Clearly you’ve selected people in the food service as the ones to target with your anger and aggression and I just feel bad for anyone that has waited on you. My one comment is that there’s no way for you to know if you are a better server than anyone if you’ve never done the job and this goes for any job for that matter. The only way to truly understand someone else is to walk a day in their shoes. Until you’ve worked just one shift serving tables I think it would be better for you to find another outlet for your aggression. Might I suggest some form of excercise? You might find this article helpful: http://www.livestrong.com/article/530791-does-exercise-make-you-happy/ Cheers!

    • springs1 Says:

      Kelly

      negative, unhappy person.

NO, I am a VERY MUCH POSITIVE HAPPY PERSON. YOU HAVE NO CLUE WTH YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!

your blog is clear evidence to the contrary

It’s not that I am unhappy when I get to the restaurant, it’s when the lazy ass, uncaring servers do things to make me not happy, understand? I am happy, just not when they are lazy and uncaring towards us.

Clearly you’ve selected people in the food service as the ones to target with your anger and aggression

No, I have selected these people because they are the ones that have CAUSED PROBLEMS in our service usually due to being TOO LAZY and VERY UNCARING to check things over or TOO LAZY to do the right thing by making a separate trip to go in the order in which request came in.

I just feel bad for anyone that has waited on you.

WHY? I AM NICER THAN THEY ARE TO ME. I say “thank you” and ask nicely for things, when most of the time servers don’t APOLOGIZE for their mistakes, they just don’t for some WEIRD REASON I CANNOT UNDERSTAND? They want your money, but don’t want to be nice, WTH???

there’s no way for you to know if you are a better server than anyone if you’ve never done the job and this goes for any job for that matter. he only way to truly understand someone else is to walk a day in their shoes.

Actually there is when I have PROVEN SERVERS AND MANAGERS WRONG WITH THE MENUS AND HOW TO DO THE JOB, so SORRY, BUT YOU ARE WAYYYYY THE FUCK OFF BASE. Here’s some REAL LIFE EXAMPLES OF WHY I KNOW BETTER:

We had gone to On the Border for our VERY FIRST TIME out of town. It was slow on a Sunday afternoon. I added ranch to my appetizer, which the waiter that brought out the food(NOT OUR SERVER, we had a waitress), didn’t have the ranch. He didn’t say he was sorry, nor did she for forgetting it. She could have just brought out the ranch ahead of time to avoid that issue completely.

My husband ordered a meal that came with rice and beans, which he ordered it as it came from the menu. Our waitress brought out our food, which my husband received a side of beans instead of rice as one of the side dishes. The IDIOT waitress said “I don’t know why the cook’s plated 2 beans.” Then later on when I had opened my chimichunga, it had shredded beef, which this is NOT what the menu description had which I had ordered half ground beef, half shredded chicken.” I got shredded beef and no chicken. Now, she may have put in the order correctly, BUT, when I had told her about this, she said “Does it COME with “GROUND” BEEF?” Luckily I keep a menu to check the prices with at our table, so I *************

        SHOWED

      HER WHERE THE MENU STATED:

      “Classic Chimichanga – $8.99

Hand-rolled, fried golden brown, with your choice of meat, cheese and pico de gallo, then topped with melted cheese. Served with choice of chile con carne, fresh sour cream sauce, queso, or ranchero sauce.

Seasoned Ground Beef or Slow-Cooked Pulled Chicken”

I couldn’t BELIEVE I HAD TO PROVE HER WRONG AND THIS WAS OUR FUCKING ASS *********FIRST TIME GOING THERE EVEN*********!!

Well as it turns out when we get our check, we are OVERCHARGED on a side of BLACK BEANS we didn’t order. She admitted she thought “BB” meant “BBQ SAUCE” which is a condiment I had ordered. The thing is, the person in the kitchen initially messed up by not knowing the menu because the original item wasn’t altered assuming our waitress put in the order correctly by not giving rice as part of the meal which our waitress was supposed to CATCH this DUH mistake that DUH RICE is NOT on the plate, DUHH, ANY IDIOT CAN NOTICE THAT WITH THEIR *EYES* when they bring it out since it’s not something that you have to TOUCH to notice it’s wrong. In all honesty, the way she rung it up on our check, we should have received the original meal that came with rice and beans as well as an extra side of beans, even though we didn’t order an extra side of beans, the way she rung it up she should have noticed this, but even the kitchen staff was TOO STUPID to KNOW THE MENU ITEMS WHAT COMES WITH WHAT ASSUMING since our check wasn’t even fixed when we got it that I had to show her she overcharged us. She didn’t ONCE apologize for her lazy ass mistakes. Her tip was 6%.

Now, don’t you think we knew the *MENU* and HOW TO DO THE JOB ***********BETTER THAN HER, HUH***********?

As the customer, you *SEE* what the server is doing wrong. It’s common sense that you can if rice is on a plate or not and that if you don’t know the menu, you should compare the plate of food to the menu and the written order.

Can you HONESTLY BELIEVE I HAD TO **********PROVE THAT GROUND BEEF CAME WITH MY CHIMICHANGA, HUH? I KNEW THE MENU BETTER THAN SHE DID ALL THE WAY AROUND AND THEN SOME, which we spent AROUND AN HOUR IF THAT THERE AND IT WAS WAYYY BEFORE AN HOUR THAT WE RECEIVED OUR FOOD WHERE I PROVED HER WRONG!! Remember, this was our VERY FIRST VISIT HERE.

I am smarter in that if I were a server I’d:

      1. I would have offered to bring out the ranch *BEFORE* the appetizer would have came out with another server that could care less about my tip.

      2. I would have known that bb would not stand for bbq since it’s got 3 letters. The fact that BLACK BEANS is an ITEM there we would serve. I would have also known that rice came with the item that the husband ordered by comparing the menu description to the food BEFORE LEAVING THE KITCHEN since he ordered it as it came on the MENU.

      3. I would have also known the chimichanga came with GROUND beef, NOT SHREDDED, because I would have taken the *******EFFORT INTO COMPARING THE MENU DESCRIPTION TO WHAT I WAS RINGING UP!

      4. I would have NEVER made a customer prove me wrong on a menu item, because that’s embarrassing as a server and it does make you feel stupid by STUDYING AT *HOME* OFF THE INTERNET MENU.

      5. I would have TRIED to notice if I would have overcharged a customer, apologized, and offer a comp like a soft drink off the bill for my customer’s inconvenience.

So YEAH, I AM SMARTER A LOT OF TIMES!! I JUST KEEP PROVING YOU WRONG!! I HAVE LOTS MORE STORIES!!

      Here’s another story:

We went to this place called Mugshots:

      http://www.mugshotsgrillandbar.com/

I ordered the Tucker’s Pulled Pork Sandwich, which the menu actually had “Served with a heaping helping of Kayla’s coleslaw.”

I had told the waitress I didn’t want the coleslaw that I didn’t like coleslaw. I ordered my fries without seasoning or salt, not overdone. So I mentioned fries when I ordered.

When the bill came, it had “Substitute fries 50 cents.” I questioned her, she was like “That sandwich only has one side.” I was like “All of our gourmet sandwiches are served with brew city’s beer battered fries …” I cannot believe she *ARGUED* with ***********EXACT WORDING ON THE MENU*********. That’s just unbelievable. There’s no physical proof she’s right, there is physical proof I was right though.

I LITERALLY HAD TO READ THIS TO HER 2-3 TIMES for the STUPID ASS BITCH to get it through her thick skull that I was *PAYING* for the damn fries in the price of the item. “I even told her “ALL” like that even, REPEATING ********ALL GOURMET SANDWICHES ARE SERVED WITH FRIES, ALL GOURMET SANDWICHES ARE SERVED WITH FRIES…. I should have said “DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE WORD *ALL* MEANS IN THE DICTIONARY, I MEAN SERIOUSLY?

Even the manager on duty was so stupid and I even proved him wrong even. He finally admitted I was right, because I was. At first, he said I was wrong, then I proved him wrong with the menu. How about that one for ya and I had *NEVER* gone there in my *LIFETIME* even. HOW ABOUT THAT ONE FOR YA, huh?

We stiffed her. She didn’t ONCE say she was sorry when she was in the wrong. That was my first and ONLY time we have *EVER* gone there even. I shouldn’t have had to explain exact WORDING to her like she couldn’t *READ* or something. She was a DITSY STUPID ASS WAITRESS and the manager was even dumber not to know the menu *BETTER* than the servers even.

I had gone by the menu when ordering and the menu stated “ALL SANDWICHES ARE SERVED WITH FRIES.” That means what it states.

I got fries without a problem, because I mentioned my certain modifications for my fries as to why I didn’t know about it before bill time. See if I would have ordered it saying “No coleslaw” and not mentioned fries cooked and prepared a certain way I would have only received the sandwich. THERE I would have been some pissed. I *READ* the *MENU* and it stated I would get fries. Understand how you have to *KNOW* the menu to get things correct, huh?

My point is, I *READ* the **************WORDS ON THE MENU THAT I GOT *FRIES* for my money in the price of the item(any of those sandwiches).

It is strange, but this restaurant charges you for substituting side dishes unlike most restaurants, but the thing is, I NEVER ONCE SUBSTITUTED a side dish, because the menu stated the fries came with that item.

I talked to managers since and they agreed with me, because you cannot disprove WRITTEN PROOF, you just can’t.

That sandwich according to the menu includes two side dishes. That’s what the menu has. She was telling me that this sandwich only had one, but that’s *NOT* what the menu states. The menu states *ALL* sandwiches are served with fries and it’s even under the same section even.

I KNEW MORE than the stupid staff members. YES I did.

We stiffed, because she was a bitch about it. You don’t argue *EVER* with a customer period even if they would maybe be wrong. Since I was 100% right, I cannot understand for the *LIFE* of me why she tried to argue with me about 50 cents considering it was ************WORD FOR WORD PROOF ON THE MENU***********, NOT HEAR SAY. Costs her entire tip for 50 cents plus tax. If I would have been the server and the customer would have been right about something, I’d rather take 55 cents(tax I would include) and just forfeit 55 cents of MY OWN MONEY so I could get a nice tip instead. This was STUPID to ARGUE with me over 50 cents being she was 100% wrong, which she KNEW THAT IS WHAT THE WRITTEN ADVERTISED LAW PROOF WAS. What an IDIOT!! She was VERY STUPID, SHE REALLY WAS. Can’t argue with *WRITTEN PROOF* on a menu.

You don’t see how I know the MENU AND HOW TO DO THE JOB BETTER THAN THE SERVERS SO THIS SHIT DOESN’T *********GET********** TO THE CUSTOMERS IDIOT? I am A VERY DETAILED ORIENTED PERSON AND YOU HAVE TO BE THAT TO BE A A SERVER!! Can you believe that was our *FIRST* and ***********ONLY********** TIME ********EVER************** THERE, but I KNEW *************MORE********** than the server and manager even, huh? That’s because I took*********EFFORT************ TO ***************READ********** THE MENU.

      Another story:

For example, a plaque outside of the lounge of a local chain restaurant we have here had on it half priced martins 4-7p.m M-F. They also had just recently changed the prices the bartender said on their menu lowering the prices on most of the martinis. They also had a menu holder advertisement in it saying “$5 martinis during happy hour.”

So when we were charged, I had to point out to the **BARTENDER AND THE STUPID IGNORANT MANAGER THAT HAD THIS ON HIS BUILDING** that they had half priced martinis. The manager had no problem giving it to me. The thing is, I hadn’t been there since March, this was July and I had only been to that location about 3-5 times if that ever even. I KNEW MORE ABOUT THE JOB THAN THE MANAGER AND THE BARTENDER.

I didn’t need to do the job to know what was advertised in the restaurant. See what I am trying to convey here?

I KNEW MORE ABOUT THE PRICES THAN THE PEOPLE THAT WORKED THERE!! It’s pathetic, it really is.

Same restaurant another visit, they had a martini on the menu I ordered “as is” that had in the description that it had a sugar crusted rim. I ordered it exactly as it came from the menu by just saying the name of the martini. She comes back with no sugar crusted rim. I notice it within 2 seconds of her putting it down. Talk about LAZINESS AND BEING IGNORANT about what you are **SERVING**. You don’t even need drink in a glass to see if there’s sugar crusted rims or if there’s salt on a margarita glass even.

See, that’s just some examples of how I know more than the servers know about the job THEY HAVE DONE, I HAVEN’T, YET I KNOW MORE. WHY IS THAT? It’s because I am not too lazy to **READ** the menu and signs in the place, THEY ARE!!

      Another story:

My husband and I had gone to try a certain Mexican restaurant for our first time. I ordered the nachos with shredded chicken for the appetizer nachos. Look at this on the menu:

“NACHOS DE LA CASA – Choice of ground beef
or shredded chicken, topped w/lettuce, pico de gallo,
      sour cream, jalapenos and beans……………………………………………..7.25
      w/Steak ……………………………………………………………………………………8.25
      w/Shrimp ……………………………………………………………………………….9.25”

      http://andalemargaritasgrill.com/menu.html

This is from the internet menu and it is just like this on the menu inside the restaurant. I didn’t specially order something not on the menu. We received grilled chicken from our waitress that you can *SEE* it wasn’t right on top the nachos, but I didn’t know since I don’t work there you know. Our waitress should KNOW what shredded chicken LOOKS like since SHE WORKS THERE, WE DON’T on the NACHOS she BROUGHT OUT!! It was our FIRST time there, so we didn’t know what it was supposed to look like(I should have though, but didn’t think about what shredded is supposed to look like, now I feel stupid about that I didn’t know just by looking at it the first second it hit the table) . Since nachos you can SEE the chicken, at least some pieces that aren’t covered up without TOUCHING anything, she should and could have caught her error for ringing it up wrong by her WRITTEN ORDER as well as the menu comparing that plate of food to the MENU noticing that there wasn’t an option nor did the customer say “GRILLED” anything. An option not on the menu even I DID NOT ORDER., HOW PATHETIC can you get, you don’t agree?

In my chimchunga I specifically said shredded chicken. I didn’t think it looked right when I broke it open, but I didn’t know how they shred the chicken they served.

When we got our check, we were overcharged on TWO items. One was the nachos charging us $8.25(grilled chicken) when there isn’t even an *OPTION* on the menu(notice above from the internet menu) for that and I didn’t ask for something not on the menu. That was a dollar overcharge. Then, the grilled chicken is 50 cents more than what I ordered. $9.25 I was supposed to be charged, which I was charged $9.75.

I presented the problems to her nicely; she didn’t say she was SORRY even. I would have said I was SO SORRY and asked a manager if they can take off a least a soft drink for messing up if I were the server in that situation. It wasn’t just 2 overcharges, but she messed up 2 food orders as well by ringing them up wrong(at least the nachos for sure were rung up wrong) and SERVING the nachos wrong since it was obvious.

When I told her about there wasn’t even an option for the grilled chicken on the menu she said “It was an accident”, which I told her, which is SO TRUE, she didn’t even “TRY”. She didn’t: A. BRING out the nachos OBVIOUSLY correct by comparing the written order and menu to the food B. Compared what she was RINGING UP to the menu and the written order C. Compared the check to the menu prices to what we ordered BEFORE she handed us. How can TWO mistakes on a check be an “ACCIDENT” when you had times where you could have caught the mistakes since the restaurant was almost empty( like one other table of 2 or 3 people at it and 2 or 3 people at the bar? All that time we ate, she could have CAUGHT her mistake, for REAL. Our check times were 1:34p.m., then the credit card receipt was 2:14pm., so in all that time, since the place was almost empty, she couldn’t have caught those errors? GET REAL!! That was pure laziness and lack of EFFORT to TRY to get things right.

So try to tell me HOW can I not *KNOW* how to do the job when I see this kind of UNCARING SHIT from a server, huh? If anything, that has TAUGHT ME what grilled chicken looks like compared to shredded chicken, that I knew the MENU *BETTER* than SHE DID, that she put in the order wrong for the chimchunga I am assuming since we got overcharged on that as well, she put in the order wrong most likely for the nachos since we got overcharged on that item as well. I couldn’t FATHOM doing **ANY*** of these things she did that *SHE* ALONE CAUSED OUR PROBLEMS at our table. See how I would be a BETTER, NON-LAZY, and MORE CARING server than she was, huh?

A good, caring server would have:

      1. Since she wrote down what I asked for “shredded chicken” if she didn’t know the menu, she should have compared the menu while ringing up the items so she would have known “DUH NO GRILLED CHICKEN OPTION ON THE MENU EVEN AND THE FACT THAT I DIDN’T SAY “GRILLED” so she should have compared the written order to the computer screen she was ringing up.)

      2. Before she brought it out, let’s say she put the order in correctly. She should have known how they shredded their chicken since she worked there to decide not to bring it out since you could clearly see it wasn’t shredded chicken on top the nachos.

      3. When she put the order in for the chimichunga, assuming she most likely didn’t put it in correctly that she overcharged me on that, so she could have compared the menu to that item she was ringing up.

      4. When she got ready to bring the check, she should have compared the menu prices to the check as well as the written order and found the errors, got them fixed from the manager BEFORE giving us our check.

So that’s just one of MANY stories that’s proof. We stiffed her. she deserved it. She was VERY UNCARING and VERY, VERY, VERY LAZY. She could have caught everything except for the chicken inside my chimichunga since she would have had to cut that open. Everything else though was 100% HER FAULT. I really think though since my chimichunga was overcharged she rung it up wrong initially that she didn’t change it before she handed us the check.

      Grilled chicken for example:

      Shredded chicken for example:

I have MUCH MORE STORIES if you are interested.

if you’ve never done the job and this goes for any job for that matter.

Actually it doesn’t pertain to when you are IN the situation that you can EASILY TELL *WHO* CAUSED THE ISSUE. Think about it when that waitress that we had at On the Border for example said to us “I don’t know why the cook’s plated 2 beans”, you can EASILY TELL WITH YOUR ****EYES**** DUH DON’T WASTE TIME BRINGING OUT SOMETHING THAT APPEARS WRONG THAT DOESN’T MATCH THE MENU AND THE WRITTEN ORDER. For example, I haven’t served at a regular restaurant, but have learned much more being a customer than I EVER did serving customers at the donut shop/diner back between 1998-2002 off and on a little over 2yrs worth. I learned A LOT MORE about what it’s like to be a customer since my mom cooked a lot, so I hardly went out to eat growing up to understand how it feels to be a customer. I mean if I had to add up if we had gone out to eat 3-5 times a year that was A LOT for us. It was rare that we ate out. I learned all of this through once I met my husband in Nov. 2000, we have been going out to eat every weekend just about 2-3 times a weekend at times. So we have had LOTS of EXPERIENCE with seeing *WHO* caused the issues. Most of the time it was our server or another server that caused the issue to get at our table.

Have you ever been overcharged on a PRICE on the menu vs. the check price? If you haven’t, how can you SERVE if you don’t know how it FEELS to be that customer, huh? Have you ever got your food entirely wrong or had a server admit they forgot to put in your order or your server forget your side dish? We have had LOTS of times. If you haven’t, how do you know how that feels?

Understand my point??????? I didn’t know how it felt back when I started in 1998 and made one man keep a raw twist donut, one lady keep her cold croissant, and even served hours old decaf out of a thermos because I couldn’t RELATE since I wasn’t hardly ever a customer back then. Now I can relate and couldn’t FATHOM doing those things that it’s inhuman, but I didn’t understand since it was ME getting that raw twist donut or cold croissant or decaf when I don’t drink hot coffee at all hardly ever.

Until *YOU* are the person that it hits home to as the customer, you cannot understand how to serve DUMMY! Look at the stuff I did when I wasn’t a customer much at all. I did things I am ashamed of today doing those things I did. If I were the customer would I want a raw donut? Of course not. Would I want a cold croissant? No, of course not. Would I want old coffee that wasn’t hot? No, of course not.

NOW DO YOU UNDERSTAND ******WHERE***** I AM COMING FROM?

Even managers should know that they have a sign for example as well. I think it’s pretty bad when managers of all people don’t know what’s in their restaurant even, but someone that hasn’t been there for MONTHS DOES. I WOULD BE A BETTER MANAGER IN THAT I AM EXTREMELY DETAIL ORIENTED AND THEY AREN’T!

Until you’ve worked just one shift serving tables I think it would be better for you to find another outlet for your aggression.

No, the aggression has to do with *THE SERVERS* IDIOT! YOU ARE DUMB! This has NOTHING to do with anything else.

I want a CARING, NON-LAZY SERVER, so does EVERYONE ELSE NORMAL in this world except for YOU WEIRDO!!

This has ZERO to do with aggression and has **********EVERY FUCKING THING TO DO WITH LAZY ASS, UNCARING, AND DUMB SERVERS THAT AREN’T WILLING TO DO THE *WORK* FOR THE MONEY!!

I personally think you need to be on medication. However, I have a simple solution to combating lazy service that you claim you can do so much better. My solution for you is to actually get off of your couch and off your computer and go get yourself a job in a restaurant and then you can be the most super fantastic awesome caring and attentive waiter that you think you can be and prove everyone wrong. My guess is after one shift you would be in tears because you are a whiny borderline psychotic brat who probably couldn’t handle one day in the life of a waiter.

    • springs1 Says:

I personally think you need to be on medication.

WHY? Because I have feelings? Because I want good service? Because I want someone to not be lazy? I don’t need medication to be a good person. YOU DO THOUGH!!

My solution for you is to actually get off of your couch and off your computer and go get yourself a job in a restaurant and then you can be the most super fantastic awesome caring and attentive waiter that you think you can be and prove everyone wrong. I have a job. First off, I am woman so I wouldn’t be a waiter, I’d be a waitress. Secondly, I would be able to handle it, because I am NOT LAZY LIKE YOU AND A LOT OF THE REST OF THE UNCARING, LAZY SERVERS OUT THERE AND YOU KNOW IT!! I BUST ASS. My first job at a donut shop/diner back in 1998, I got a raise within a MONTH AND A HALF 35 cents more from min. wage. How many people can say that at their first job, huh? Most people don’t get raises that fast in general, especially a fast food type of job at that. $5.15/hr was min. wage, I got to $5.50/hr. I am STILL a GO-GETTER. I STILL BUST MY ASS for my jobs. At my last office job that I had gotten laid off from, while the server was down, instead of sitting and chit chatting like the rest, I went vacuum almost the entire office. I want to EARN my pay and not be bored. I am NOT LIKE YOU!! So NO, I am not a brat, that’s YOU THAT IS LAZY AND SPOILED MOST LIKELY TO SAY SUCH A THING. I wouldn’t be in tears, because I would have studied the menu on my time at HOME so I wouldn’t like an IDIOT like A LOT of these servers do today that don’t know WTF they are serving. I know more than the managers at times even. It’s sad, it really is.

I can prove that I know more, because I’ve done it as a customer. All I do is read the menu and the servers don’t read the menu or even study at home the menu to know it. Didn’t you read my other posts about that I proved servers and managers wrong, huh? Have you done that before? I bet you haven’t. If you are a server or were a server, obviously you are one of them and are just MADDDD that you SUCK or SUCKED as a server because you know you were lazy ass and uncaring of a human being.

When *YOU* get things wrong, *YOU* feel what is happening. It’s always different when it’s the customer getting things wrong that was in the server’s control, because it wasn’t *YOU* or your family, it was someone else’s time and money.

No I don’t since you need ******************A LOT OF EDUCATION(COLLEGE YEARS) to do those jobs.

YOU SURE DON’T NEED A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA EVEN OR A GED TO GET A FUCKING SERVER JOB IDIOT!

ANYONE CAN DO THIS JOB JUST ABOUT.

NO HIGH SCHOOL OR COLLEGE EDUCATION REQUIRED.

Think about it. I would rather ANY DAY a server that has only a month experience that has the HUGE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE in dine-in situations even if they have never been a server before than a server that has a year or more experience, but never was much of a dine-in customer at non-fast food restaurants hardly ever.

Do you know how it feels to be overcharged at a restaurant? Even if you do, I bet it didn’t happen but once or so to you? It happened to us around 30 plus times at least since Nov. 2000.

Have you ever had completely wrong food at your table delivered by YOUR OWN SERVER or ANOTHER SERVER? We have.

Have you ever had servers that ADMITTED they FORGOT to put orders into the computer? WE HAVE A NUMBER OF TIMES.

Have you ever had condiments forgotten in almost every dining experience? WE HAVE A ZILLION TIMES AND THEN SOME!!

So NO, your logic doesn’t make sense. See, I would know how to do the job and I do BETTER than the servers. If I didn’t, WHY are they being lazy on the job and not caring about their tip, huh?

  19. Lauren Says:

Oh also having a cheat sheet right in front of you does not make you know the menu better than a server who has to memorize not only the basics but also extremely minute details just in case people are allergic to bizarre things or opt to go on extreme and ridiculous diets.

Actually it DOES when you are *********RINGING ME UP YOU STUPID ASS IDIOT**********!!

When you ring me up, you should have in your hand a *MENU* if you don’t know it, is that understood LAZY BITCH?

It does count, because our waitress should have compared the menu to what she was ringing up at the Andale restaurant since she didn’t know that there was no such thing as “Grilled chicken” option on the nachos appetizer I ordered and compared the written order(I SAID SHREDDED CHICKEN) to what she was ringing up. Then, when the food came out, she should have compared the written order to the food and noticed that the chicken wasn’t shredded because I saw grilled chicken on top my nachos.

So *********YES IT DOES ********************VERY MUCH SO COUNT, because I PROVED HER THE FUCK WRONG IDIOT!!

I mean, all you do when you ring me up is compare the menu and the written order to what you are ringing up.

So NO, I don’t expect you to “MEMORIZE” A DAMN THING WHEN IT COMES TO STUFF LIKE THAT.

I do expect my server to know at least SOME basic stuff as anyone would. I don’t expect them to know everything. I expect them to ***************TRY TO LEARN IT**************** BY COMPARING THE MENU TO WHAT THEY ARE RINGING UP.

Just because the computer has an option or doesn’t have an option for something, doesn’t mean the menu matches the computer.

  20. Lauren Says:

Honestly a server can know the menu like the back of their hand but the time sensitive nature and managing 30ish customers at the same time who are people and throw many finicky things at you in an already pressured situation. Honestly the human brain can only process so much and also process less in a very time pressured situation. Until you have actually performed the job then you HAVE NO IDEA what your server is actually juggling/doing to get you your meal along the the 29 other assholes waving crap at them and and all wanting to be first. I have RARELY had service I would consider horrible because if it is a small issue at the dinner table I can understand my server has a lot on his or her hands and didn’t do it on purpose. I also eat out a lot and I am also married and I also go to school full time and I also work about 30 hours a week on top of all of those responsibilities. I am the opposite of lazy… I spend my night and my weekends away from my family to cater to ungrateful and condescending twatty bitches like yourself who whah whah whah about anything you can find because you are so disgusted that you had to throw me 5$ for serving you.

    • springs1 Says:

I got news for you, the day that we went to that Andale restaurant, it was almost EMPTY, like she had one other small table and 2-3 people at the bar, that’s IT.

I am not saying most of the time they aren’t busy, but if you don’t care about WTF you are doing, WHY do it? You know good and well your tip DEPENDS ON MISTAKES, even ones that you can’t control that a lot people(NOT US) take out on their server, so WHY would you want to make more problems than necessary?

“Honestly the human brain can only process so much and also process less in a very time pressured situation.”

As I said, NOT ALL THE TIME. One time, we were the ONLY CUSTOMERS in this restaurant and the waiter brought me an OPEN-FACED burger with bleu cheese instead of cheddar that I had specifically substituted cheddar for bleu cheese. The reason why I got that burger is because it had bacon on it already and the regular one with cheese didn’t. He also forgot my ranch. Yeah, I bet he really compared the ticket or written order BEFORE he brought it to me, right? NOT!!

While I understand, but if you don’t *CARE* about WHAT YOU ARE DOING, WHY should the customer care about your tip much or maybe even at all, huh?

“Until you have actually performed the job then you HAVE NO IDEA what your server is actually juggling/doing to get you your meal along the the 29 other assholes waving crap at them and and all wanting to be first.”

At times I do, because I watch my server at times to see if they are going to do as I asked or go out of order or not.

“I have RARELY had service I would consider horrible”

Then that’s why you don’t understand. Until *YOU* GO THROUGH the shitty service we have, you won’t understand what it’s like to be the people IN THE CUSTOMER’S SEAT dealing with the server that most of the time was uncaring and lazy.

“because if it is a small issue at the dinner table I can understand my server has a lot on his or her hands and didn’t do it on purpose.”

Actually, it is on purpose A LOT OF TIMES when they don’t do as I said “Compare the menu to the what they are ringing up” to even **********TRY********** TO GET THINGS RIGHT.

I have had servers ADMITTED to our faces they did it on purpose. One was a waitress that said “I DON’T ADD IT UP” when we had two prices that were added up into one on the check that was $1.50 overcharge. $21.99 $4.99, was charged $28.48, but was supposed to be $26.98. You can easily round it in your head 22 plus 5 is 27, DUHH, that doesn’t match. MOST SERVERS ARE LIKE THAT. THEY DON’T TRY THEIR BEST WHICH THAT **********IS************* ON PURPOSE TO BE LAZY AND UNCARING ON THE JOB!! As I said, you have to **************CARE*************** ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING IF YOU WANT THAT *******CARING********** BACK IN THE TIP.

Another time, another waitress that wasn’t our waitress delivered the food that we ordered, I saw on the *****TRAY******** the open-faced burger had MISSING extra crispy bacon, pickles on the side of the plate which I ordered “no pickles”, and no side of ranch as ordered as well. Now, it’s POSSIBLE, but highly unlikely that our waitress put in my order THAT wrong. What happened is since I saw all of that, it pissed me the FUCK OFF THAT SOMEONE WOULD NOT HAVE ******************CARING***************** IN THEIR HEART TO ********CARE*********** ABOUT *************WTF************ THEY ARE BRINGING ME. I KNEW SHE DIDN’T READ THE TICKET AND COMPARE IT TO THE FOOD, because this is what she said after I told her in a not-so-nice way what was wrong or missing “I’M NOT YOUR SERVER.” See, that’s ADMITTING SHE DIDN’T READ THE TICKET. So I was RIGHT and I KNEW IT THAT 3 DUH MISTAKES THAT I DIDN’T EVEN GET THE PLATE IN FRONT OF ME, IT WAS ON THE TRAY. That PROVES she didn’t TRY HER BEST.

WHY DO SOMETHING IF YOU DON’T ***********CARE************* ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING? Obviously, you think that people should care about that you only make $2.13/hr, well then you have to care about us.

Now, in this waitress’s defense, she wasn’t seeing the tip since she wasn’t our server, but that’s not my fault(nobody tips when they get food delivered from another server because we’d have to touch dirty money) and it’s not my fault that our waitress didn’t share part of the tip since she didn’t do all the work she should share it with the person that did the work. BUT that doesn’t mean that this waitress shouldn’t treat us like HUMAN BEINGS WITH FEELINGS JUST BECAUSE SHE DIDN’T SEE A TIP, because that’s what team work is, it goes and it comes, so when another server delivers her table’s food, they should be checking over the ticket for her. So that way it is even if you work as a team.. These other servers should still *******CARE********** about people as we have FEELINGS. I mean seriously, that was a FUCKING, SELFISH LAZY BITCH and then to tell me that. It doesn’t matter she wasn’t our server, she was supposed to (KNOW) what at least the TICKET had on it and she admitted by saying “I’M NOT YOUR SERVER”, she didn’t read the ticket.

“Honestly a server can know the menu like the back of their hand ”

If that’s the case, WHY am I finding a lot they don’t, huh?

“I am the opposite of lazy…”

Then why did you mention “Cheat sheet” to me, because if you weren’t lazy, you would be doing as I said with *******ALL********** ORDERS you put in that’s on the menu.

“because you are so disgusted that you had to throw me 5$ for serving you.”

NO, I want PERFECT SERVICE, NOTHING TO GO WRONG OR AT LEAST CLOSE. MONEY IS NOT AN OBJECT HERE.

We have tipped 25%-30% and upwards. I gave 2 servers $20 just for christmas with nothing back but continued good service from these servers I requested a couple of years ago I did this. Since then they quit as a lot of servers do, but they served us for YEARS since 06 or 07 and I gave it in 2011.

I don’t want things to go wrong. Don’t you get that or what? Sure, I make mistakes, but a good majority of the time, no matter how nice we are about the mistakes, most servers DO NOT say they are sorry. I don’t get it that they want your money, but don’t want to be nice?

Just Tuesday we went out to eat since it was a holiday, our waitress forgot the ranch and didn’t say she was sorry. I still say “thank you” to her and was nice to her, WHAT ABOUT US? Why can’t servers be nice if they want your money? Instead of a lousy 15% if she would have said she was sorry, she would have had 18% just for simply being nice.

Do you understand I just want good, caring, and non-lazy service?

If you don’t compare the menu to what you are ringing up if you don’t know it well enough, you aren’t caring about what you are doing, understand?

  21. Lauren Says:

Time sensitive…. what part of time sensitive don’t you understand. You are a customer sitting at a table having a meal of leisure so it is only about 50,000 times easier for you to catch minor errors. Can you read at the speed of light? Have you never fumbled or forgotten anything in your life when you were overwhelmed and under a lot of pressure in a time sensitive situation. Even if it is slow or you witnessed your server eating you still don’t know what else is going on. Servers are not guaranteed a lunch or even dinner break and can work shifts that are up to 18 hours straight through (if you work in a restaurant that also functions as a bar a double means 10am to up to 4am if it stays open until 2 and there is still lots of cleaning to do after close) Do you know what it is like to also be hungry and thirsty and on your feet for that long watching people eat and drink and also berating you over things as simple as ranch? All anyone is trying to tell you is that until you have ACTUALLY performed the job then you HAVE NO RIGHT to be as outraged as you are about service industry. Yes, I have had a server or two that was just outright lazy and rude… having a bad day or just fed up with their job and I simply just didn’t tip them… it is simple… but to go on an outright crusade against a workforce that you have no experience working in is simply a little bit crazy.

“Time sensitive…. what part of time sensitive don’t you understand. You are a customer sitting at a table having a meal of leisure so it is only about 50,000 times easier for you to catch minor errors.”

As I said AGAIN, if you don’t *CARE* about *****WHAT****** YOU ARE DOING, then it doesn’t do any good, does it?

SLOW DOWN. If you have time to ask people how they are doing or buss tables, you have time. I know you have to pre-buss, but the customer is MORE IMPORTANT than dirty dishes will EVER BE at an empty table. If someone asks for a refill, do you think they’d rather you buss the table next to them or get their refill? I think they’d rather have their refill and you know it.

Also, it’s not minor errors like the missing BACON, that’s NOT MINOR. Seriously, that’s a whole item missing and it was EXTREMELY OBVIOUS.

It’s also not an error when you don’t try your best like that waitress that said “I’M NOT YOUR SERVER.” It’s on PURPOSE to not try your best.

“Have you never fumbled or forgotten anything in your life when you were overwhelmed and under a lot of pressure in a time sensitive situation.”

Well of course, the thing is, I at least ******************TRIED**************** MY BEST instead of winged it per say.

Maybe you need to get more lazy, uncaring servers to serve you to fully understand.

“Servers are not guaranteed a lunch or even dinner break and can work shifts that are up to 18 hours straight through (if you work in a restaurant that also functions as a bar a double means 10am to up to 4am if it stays open until 2 and there is still lots of cleaning to do after close) Do you know what it is like to also be hungry and thirsty and on your feet for that long watching people eat and drink and also berating you over things as simple as ranch? I sure DO, because if you want *************OUR MONEY************, then you have to try your best.

Eat *BEFORE* you get on your shift. That helps at least SOME.

Until you have had the horrible service we have, you have no right to say anything about my experiences, because *WE* went through them, NOT YOU!

They ruined our outings. I thought about that waitress that said “I’M NOT YOUR SERVER” the entire day even. I couldn’t believe someone would be that UNCARING about other people.

“but to go on an outright crusade against a workforce that you have no experience working in is simply a little bit crazy.”

WHY when I know how to do the job *****BETTER***** than the servers, huh? Even MANAGERS I have proven the menu about how I knew things. Like the mugshots story in an earlier post, I proved to the *MANAGER* what they had on *THEIR* menu and it was my only first time there.

It’s not crazy when you know WHO caused the issue.

You have no experience in getting horrible service that we have, so you have no right to serve since you don’t understand how a customer feels.

I would rather any day someone that has my experience than someone that has yours, because no one has to “TRAIN” me compare the menu and the written orders or tickets to the food for obvious errors, compare the menu prices to the check prices, etc. I KNOW these things WITHOUT TRAINING. Obviously, I don’t need experience you say, do I?

You seem to care just about YOURSELF like you are hungry and thirsty, what about US, OUR FEELINGS, OUR TIME, OUR DINING EXPERIENCE? You seem a bit ONE-SIDED ON CARING ABOUT US, JUST ABOUT YOURSELF. Bring a snack or something and eat it in the bathroom if you have to, seriously. I would that that rather than passing out from low blood sugar or something or just that you can’t take the hunger anymore.

You seem pretty ONE-SIDED on this issue that you are only thinking about YOURSELF, NOT THE CUSTOMER “I’m Thirsty, I’m Hungry” “I’m Tired”, while I understand, that’s not our fault you had to work double shifts.

I worked 19hrs once at a donut shop/diner. While I know it’s not the same, it’s still hard to not have any sleep 11a.m.(My shift was from 2p.m. -10p.m.), but someone called to see if I could come in early, which I said ok. Well, I didn’t know I’d be there until a little past 6a.m. the next morning(that’s because I also had to z-out my register and count it, so technically it was a bit after 6a.m. So don’t think I don’t have at least A LITTLE feeling of what it’s like to have NO SLEEP(this was a 24hr place at the time) and to be on your feet.

I also had other times when I worked 6a.m.-10p.m. 2p.m.-6a.m., etc.

There’s got to be times when it was slow during the 18hrs straight you worked that you could eat something or rest for a moment, come on now, be honest.

I am just saying, you act like it’s a PITY PARTY for the server. You obviously care MUCH MORE ABOUT YOURSELF THAN THE CUSTOMERS, SO WHY SHOULD THEY PAY YOU A NICE GOOD TIP OR A TIP AT ALL, HUH?

You don’t see how you are being self-absorbed with your pity party? You want us to care about you, but all you seem to care about is YOURSELF. Just reread your post and see how it’s all about you when it’s not. The tip is only about you when serving. You are there to provide a service. You aren’t there for us to feel bad for you, that’s personal. You are only there to care about us personally if you want our money. We don’t have to care about you personally. You certainly don’t seem to care about us on the job, much less about us personally, so why should we care about you personally, huh?

I don’t care if you are hungry and thirsty. I care if I get my order right as far as what you can control at my table. I care about if I get my things in a timely fashion. I care about not getting overcharged. If you want the customer’s money, you have to satisfy *THEM*, NOT YOURSELF as you seem to think we should have to worry about you, NO, we don’t. If you don’t want our money, then you wouldn’t be there. Understand?

You want our money, so unless you were volunteering, I don’t care if you are working a double shift or hungry, understand? You are a STRANGER and you sure don’t care about us to say these things about JUST YOURSELF(I’M HUNGRY, I’M THIRSTY, I’M TIRED), do you?

“Absolutely right. As a waiter, it was ultimately my responsibility to ensure that EVERYTHING was correct with your food. The funny thing is, if waiters took the time to pay attention to the little details like the one’s Spring mentioned, they would actually have MORE time on their hands to take care of customers. Afterall, it takes maybe 30 seconds to check over an order and make sure it’s correct. Failure to do so means that you now have to go all the way back to the kitchen, argue with a cook, get a replacement side item, then carry it back out to the table. That time could have been better spent taking care of other tables instead.”

In my experience, at least half the time if not more it is the servers fault when food takes too long. for example, I hate when the servers hold their tix and put in 4 (or even three) at once. They are not allowed to do that. So the first table has to wait extra long and other servers got tix in also. I can’t tell you how many times someone will say they have been here for 45 minutes and the tix time says they were 20 minutes.”

“I definitely know where you’re coming from with servers, though. I will agree that 90% of our servers ARE lazy. They drive me crazy; as lazy as they are with their tables (who are providing their tips), imagine how lazy they are when it’s time to do sidework and help clean the restaurant. They’re always on their cell phones, outside smoking cigarettes, flirting with the cooks, when they should be paying attention to their guests. And I bet they get your orders wrong all the time because you’re right-they are lazy. They expect a 20% tip always. They wonder why they get “stiffed” on a tip sometimes. It’s because they didn’t deserve a tip! That’s why I said that I don’t want other servers taking my food out. I don’t trust them at all. They don’t read the kitchen slips, they bring a steak out without a steak knife, they forget sides, and they auction off food. It ends up costing me more time cause not only do I have to apologize for their order delivery not being correct, but I still have to go back to the kitchen and get whatever they forgot. And god forbid that the guest asks THEM for something because not only will they not get it, but they won’t even have the courtesy to tell me what the table wanted.”

“2. “Servers that refill iced tea without asking and/or refilling a glass at the table even if they do ask.”

AGREE- Always a fresh glass. And never refill at a table. Only water should be refilled table-side.new straw, new lemon (if needed), and let me add something: If it is fresh-brewed iced tea and is still warm, and extra glass of ice is usually appreciated, as well as an iced tea spoon. Also, the guest should never have to wait for sugar.

      3. What is a 2-for-1? Two drinks for one price? If so, yes, why should you have to get them at the same time? I don’t drink fast; my second drink would be watered down. If it’s company policy, that’s stupid. If they’re really strict, though, and they make you get both at once, I suggest you ask for the ice on the side on the second drink, or no ice and ask for a fresh side of ice later.

      4. “If the customer asks for a dessert, that’s a good time to ask about the check as well and if they do want the check, I feel the best servers are that they bring the check BEFORE the dessert ONLY if I wanted the check of course.”

I always carry a copy of my guests’ check with me after their food is served. I usually have three or four tables at once and I put all the bills in my server book, and carry one checkholder in my apron. This way, any time after their dinner is served, the guest can ask for the bill and I will have it on me. If the guest orders dessert, I have to wait until they get their dessert to give them their check (unless otherwise asked).”

She came on my blog and wrote this:

      ” MT
“Your system of never taking another tables drink order before turning in a ticket would back you up terribly, not to mention the humongous quantity of time you’d waste checking plates and menu prices. It would take you forever to get anything done.”

In my opinion, MT, once an order is taken, it should be put into the computer IMMEDIATELY. Once my guests place their order with me, the clock begins to tick. They should be getting their apps 5-10 minutes after they PLACE their order, and their entrees should take between 20-30 minutes (where I work). You really should not start off a new table with an appetizer or dinner order on hold.
The guests who just placed their order (who are hungry) are watching you approach another table. You then have to build your rapport, go over the specials, and possibly answer questions. This can potentially be very time consuming and your guests are not going to appreciate the delay in your service.
There are other times when it is acceptable to work all your tables together, but when you have a food order you shouldn’t be doing this.
The correct way to handle this is to approach the table (with the other tables’ menus in hand) and acknowledge their presence, and tell them YOU WILL BE RIGHT BACK. Then you ring in the order, go back to the table, and then you can do your greeting, go over specials, answer questions, etc. Now you can take your time with the new table cause you know that your other tables’ food is getting worked on by the kitchen.
I know that this can be time-consuming but it really is worth it. Waste no time getting food orders in.”

Did I *EVER* say *ALL* servers? I am talking about the lazy ones that don’t care. The ones that I have had to show the menu to them. Also, you are going wayyy beyond the call of duty to save someone’s life. That’s nice of you. A lot of servers, in fact most servers wouldn’t do that or know how.

” I’ll admit my error to the guest, apologize for it, ”

That’s RARE, because A LOT of servers don’t admit fault when they are and don’t apologize. It doesn’t matter how nice you try to be about it even, they still won’t admit they are wrong.

I didn’t say ALL servers are bad. I just have A LOT of servers that have given us bad service is all.

    • springs1 Says:

” but you have some, I’ll grant you that.”

Did you notice how Stef319 said that 90% of servers are lazy and that it is RARE that servers aren’t smoking, on their cell phones, flirting with the cooks, etc.? I didn’t write that. You can even see that at first I was writing a pissed off thing at her blog at first.

It’s the TRUTH that it sounds like you are one of those RARE servers that are hard workers.

I am finding a lot of servers not hard working and don’t care. Do you eat out often? If you do, how’s your service? For us, a good number of times they have servers that are just lazy and don’t care about what they are doing.

Anyway, I don’t know what convinced me I could reason to her because she is obviously about 3 worlds back from the land of reasonable. If someone treated me the way this woman acts I would kindly hand her back the money she complains about servers wanting from she and her husband (which I am going to safely assume her husband actually earns) and tell her to have a nice day and stop being lazy about cooking because there isn’t anyone who wants her in their restaurant bad enough.

    • springs1 Says:

Read the above reply to rick. I have A NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT AGREE WITH ME.

      • rick Says:

Okay, you do have a “number” of people who agree with you, albeit a small percentage- but you have some, I’ll grant you that. I would challenge you, however- do you feel you could do my job better than I could? I’ve been considered to be one of the best, most highly regarded, and respected servers (and managers) in North & Central New Jersey. Why? A) Because I’m intelligent, charismatic, and knowledgeable of food, wine and proper service without being snobby or pretentious. And B) When I make an error- which can happen to the best of us- I OWN IT. I’ll admit my error to the guest, apologize for it, and do what it takes to rectify the problem. Best of all, I do it with class. And yet I still think you feel that without even meeting me, let alone having me wait on you, that you could perform the job better than I could. Let me ask you- have you ever seen a server give the Heimlich maneuver because the guest’s dining companions froze when he was choking? Have you ever seen a server be a peacekeeper, putting himself in between two people about to throw punches? Not so much to keep them from fighting, rather because there are elderly folks nearby who could be hurt? Have you ever seen a server who gladly gave up his umbrella so that a guest wouldn’t have to go out in the snow without one, or put off doing his closing side work to clear off a guest’s car of six inches of snow? Guess what, lady- I’VE DONE ALL THAT, and more, without my service to other tables suffering. Still think you could do my job better than I could?

  27. Lauren Says:

Scenario 1: I get on the floor for a shift and have a table of 10 sit down with no other tables in my section at the time. Table of 10 orders their drinks but is in a hurry and wants to make food orders immediately even before drinks are served (happens all the time)… meanwhile two or three tables sit in my section nearly at the same time while I am stuck at the table of 10 taking both food and drink orders. The other two or 3 tables have already waited 5-10 minutes before I am even available to take their drink orders because I am clearly stuck at a table of 10 getting both drink and dinner orders (which can easily take up to 10 minutes especially if the table is indecisive or has a lot of questions about the menu)… Should I let my other tables that sat down simultaneously wait yet another 10-20 minutes on top of the time they have been waiting just to be greeted while I was stuck at the impatient 10 top just to tell me their drink order (entering a table of 10’s food can also take quite a while ESPECIALLY if I am being extra careful to put it all in correctly and the table had a lot of modifications and special requests). Then you also have to go make those 10 drinks which also takes quite an amount of time. Meanwhile your other tables are waiting an unreasonable amount of time just to be acknowledged. What Springs1 doesn’t realize is that a server at any given moment is worrying about the happiness and accommodation of EVERY guest that they are responsible for and sometimes they come in simultaneously or large parties are in a hurry and back you up BEYOND YOUR CONTROL… she personally would be pissed off whether she was in the party of 10 and wanted her order in RIGHT AWAY or if she was in the two that sat right after the 10 top because she would be so PISSED I was finishing taking their order instead of interrupting them to cater to her. She has a “ME!!! ME!! ME!!! attitude” that goes beyond the social norms and obviously no concept of “EFFICIENT MULTITASKING” because she can only see herself being a top priority in any given situation instead of the whole picture.

    • springs1 Says:

In your situation, Lauren, I would have told the hostess or host to put these tables with another server. Now, if they wouldn’t have another server at all at the time, I would have told the hostess or host, “DO NOT SEAT ANYBODY UNTIL I CAN GET THEIR ORDERS, because there are rules that you have to greet within a minute or two of them sitting down, right? It’s IMPOSSIBLE in this situation to do that, right?

This situation wouldn’t happen in 99.9% of cases, because there is more than ONE SERVER on the floor 99% of the time at most restaurants. There’s at least ONE other server and usually much more like at the chain restaurants.

In this situation you gave me, it would be totally impossible to give good service to any of them honestly.

Because if I ignore tables 2 and 3, they will be waiting 20 minutes to give their order or more, probably leaving. If I wait to put the orders into the computer for the table of 10, they are going to be waiting A HELL OF A LOT LONGER THAN THEY SHOULD FOR THEIR FOOD AND DRINKS.

I have at Hard Rock Cafe(the restaurant), a waiter that we requested that he came up to the hostess stand to say he was in the weeds that he couldn’t get anyone seated at the moment, well that’s what you should do if you have this situation. You aren’t superwoman. You can’t be two and three places at once.

All of the tables would have good service if those customers had another server or waited 10 minutes at least to get seated. By not doing this, NONE of them will have good service, NOT A ONE!! As I said, if you do go to get the 2nd and 3rd table’s drink orders, honestly by the time you got to them as you said, they’d be ready to fully order, so no one would get their drinks in a timely manner at all no matter what way you’d do it unless you do as I said either have another server serve those people OR make them wait in the waiting area. Because once people are seated, they expect *INSTANT* service.

“back you up BEYOND YOUR CONTROL…”

You can control telling the hostess or host don’t seat those people in my section yet, there’s no way I can handle it.

Even if these people just wanted drinks and appetizers, it would take a VERY LONG TIME to just get those along with questions as well and bar drinks, not just soft drinks.

This situation is usually preventable 100% by there are OTHER SERVERS USUALLY at MOST RESTAURANTS that you wouldn’t be the ONLY server, understand? Even if, as I said, you can only be at one table at a time, which the table that was the party of 10 you were in the middle of taking their orders, so you couldn’t just go to the next tables.

  28. Lauren Says:

Also don’t even get me started on the challenges of trying to keep up with orders, food running and greeting tables especially when you have some asshat’s teenage children that they obviously didn’t bother disciplining their entire life having soda chugging contests and then waving the empty glasses every 30 seconds indignantly at you for refills (Yes I mean literal soda chugging matches… in a contest to each drink down 30 ounces of soda first and you would have to refill these teens’ glasses at least 5 times in the course of a 45 minute dinner… happened actually very frequently).

Some people on blogs said they wished they could have pitchers. So maybe if your manager let’s if you have some clean pitchers available, you might want to offer that in that case. Just saying.

  29. ChiChi Says:

I was going to comment on your blog but started reading the comments and how mean you were to your readers, even if they offered respectful disagreements. You should think about how you respond to your readers if you want people to read your blog. Instead of commenting on what you’ve written about, I think I’ll just write this and be sad that you’re… just not a very nice person.

  30. Jessica Says:

I’ve noticed that many of your responses refer to Chili’s, and one mentioned On The Border. I have worked at both of these establishments. Now, I will agree with you that your server should know which meat comes in the chimichanga, and also that condiments requested should be brought with the meal. Having said that, Springy, I do think that you might take this lazy server bit a tad too far, eh? You ARE a human being, am I correct? You ***HAVE*** made a mistake, maybe once in your life, hmmm? YOU HAVE BEEN IN TRAINING FOR A JOB, RIGHT??? You ***have*** been ***brand new**** at a ***BRAND NEW**** job, MAYBE JUST ONCE? Or am I just ***ASSUMING*** like the DUMB LAZY SERVER THAT I AM, RIGHT?!?!?! Ahem, rant over. Piss off, bitch.

Or am I just ***ASSUMING*** like the DUMB LAZY SERVER THAT I AM, RIGHT?!?!?! Ahem, rant over. Piss off, bitch.

You truly don’t understand. The time I went to On the Border, that was my **********FIRST************* TIME THERE IDIOT! YOU DIDN’T **********READ*********** MY POST, DID YOU LAZY IDIOT? So in an hour or less I knew MORE than her. What does that tell you, huh?

First off, it’s on the internet their menu, which I looked at the item I wanted(this is what I get a lot at mexican restaurants), the chimichanga. I saw the menu had *GROUND* beef. When I ordered, I ordered that. It wasn’t her first day because I talked to the manager. The thing is, even if it was, I was there MUCH LESS TIME **************EVER************** THAN ((SHE)) WOULD HAVE BEEN.

Secondly, you are supposed to compare the menu to the computer screen when you ring something up IDIOT! THAT’S HOW YOU *********LEARN*********** LAZY ASS, UNCARING BITCH! FUCK YOU!

My point is, our waitress took *********ZERO************ *************************************EFFORT********************************** INTO THE JOB, so WHAT DID SHE EXPECT TO KNOW, HUH?

You learn by comparing the menu to what you are ringing up and if it’s an obvious error(this wasn’t since it was inside a chimchanga, but just saying if something is) you should compare the menu item to the food item on the plate.

Since you would have had to break the food open to know what it is, the one thing she could have done was when she rung up the item, she should have had a menu IN HER FUCKING ASS HANDS COMPARING IT TO THE COMPUTER SCREEN TO *********LEARN********* THE MENU IDIOT!

Also, let’s say the day before they tell you that you have the job. That NIGHT you could be studying some of the menu items ONLINE, because most people today have the internet or can go to a library at least or have internet on their phone.

It doesn’t matter if she was brand new, don’t you get this or what? She could have compared the menu to the computer screen, but was TOO LAZY AND UNCARING TO DO SO! How come I knew what it was and we weren’t there more than an hour even, huh? PLEASE TELL ME HOW SOMEONE THAT DOESN’T WORK THERE CAN KNOW MORE? I know, it’s because I took the ***********EFFORT TO READ*************** THE FUCKING ASS MENU DESCRIPTIONS IDIOT!!

If I knew this in less than an hour for sure at that time, she could have known it. It was slow, not busy. Sunday afternoon it was.

She was lazy. She told my husband “I don’t know why the cook’s plated 2 sets of beans”, just like that. She looked so DINGY, seriously. I mean, *SHE* left the kitchen, so even if the kitchen staff would have messed up, DUH rice isn’t beans any IDIOT can notice this.

WHY can’t you just admit you are wrong, huh? SHE WAS A LAZY, UNCARING WAITRESS! She got 6%. She’s lucky she got that. She overcharged us and didn’t even say she was sorry because *SHE* was the one that rung up an extra set of beans thinking bbq sauce that I ordered was “BB” which stood for black beans. The point is, she put the order in wrong for that, but she should have noticed there wasn’t no rice. She didn’t know her menu. My husband ordered it as it came the side dishes. He didn’t order 2 sides of beans. She didn’t know it came with beans and rice.

Look how **********LAZY AND ACTING LIKE WE AREN’T PEOPLE HOW SHE TREATED US, HUH?

      You don’t understand now, huh?

YOU FUCK OFF BITCH, because you are TOO LAZY AND STUPID TO TAKE THE AMOUNT OF EFFORT IT TAKES ON THE FIRST DAY TO LEARN THE MENU. YOU LEARN BY COMPARING WHAT YOU ARE RINGING UP WITH THE WRITTEN ORDER AND THE MENU. THAT IS HOW YOU LEARN! Then when you know the menu well enough if the menu stayed the same, you can just compare your written order with the computer screen.

SO YOU DON’T ACT LIKE A HUMAN BEING, because NO SERVER SHOULD TREAT ANOTHER PERSON LIKE THAT! She didn’t (((((((((((((TRY)))))))))) TO GET ANYTHING RIGHT TO US! Even the appetizer, another waiter didn’t have the ranch I added that ************SHE************ COULD HAVE EARNED HER OWN TIP BY BRINGING THAT OUT AHEAD OF TIME INSTEAD OF TRUSTING SOMEONE ELSE THAT COULD CARE LESS THAT ISN’T SEEING THE TIP.

She wasn’t concerned with getting ANYTHING right to us. She didn’t *********CARE**********!

It’s not a mistake when you don’t try. ***********DON’T YOU FUCKING GET IT CANNOT POSSIBLY BE A MISTAKE IF YOU DON’T GET THE MENU AND COMPARE IT TO WHAT YOU ARE RINGING UP, HUH? THAT’S BEING LAZY AND UNCARING ON THE JOB!

Think of it like this: You have a test at school. You decide not to study. You make a “D.” SAME DIFFERENCE. You don’t try, that’s not a mistake you made a “D”, that’s LAZINESS AND BEING UNCARING about your grade.

Let’s say you study real hard, you get a “D”(same grade), THAT IS TRYING AT LEAST. At least you tried.

Don’t you get that these servers act like they have NEVER been a customer before ANYWHERE that they act like we are non-humans, huh?

You have to act like that’s YOUR FOOD, YOUR MONEY, YOUR SERVICE!

I don’t care if she was brand new, I knew more than her and we weren’t there even an hour if that and at the time the chimichanga proving came around, it was UNDER an hour. I didn’t say you need to KNOW it by memory, but you do need ot know how to ring up something before you serve. Now, with the bbq sauce thing, she didn’t get trained properly obviously, but she should have caught it on our CHECK ******BEFORE******* she handed it to us knowing neither one of us ordered that. That wasn’t a mistake, that was her not checking the check. She knew that all of that happened with bringing out 2 sets of beans, common sense would say look at the check to see if she did something wrong.

The main thing though is I was there less than an hour and had to PROVE to her that it was ground beef. THAT PISSED ME THE FUCK OFF. You don’t ask the customer. You don’t be so GOD DAMN MF LAZY ASS and GO FIND OUT WITH A MENU. It was slow enough she could have gone to get a menu for sure. This was a Sunday afternoon.

SO PISS OFF BITCH YOU UNFEELING, LAZY ASS BITCH!!

So i thought i would check out your blog, cuz i thought to myself,”im sure ahe cant be that bad, but you are. 100% i have been on both sides of this particular fence and yes as a server your requests. While not impossible are ridiculous . If you require so much speciality care you should stay home where you can be treated like a spoiled princess by someone who gives a shit about each nit pick u have. And as a customer i would get up from my table and splash u with the first thing handy. Yes they are there to serve u, not slave over u. And if i had to wait an extra hour so u could bitch and keep calling server from doing his job for each petty entitlement you think ur owed, i would have to turn ur table over. I own a restaurant, but my servers get two penalty calls. Same server points u out twice for being disorderly or too of demanding, ur gone. Not only does it piss off ur server but other less troublesome customers who are waiting on u. And before u say to urself, this bitch doesnt know me, i do. Got a mom just like you who coincidentally is also 86d from my establishment because of this kind of abuse against hard working people like my team. Without them my business would be nothing, since i started 86ing people like you i have made close to 20000

You sound LAZY ASS AND UNCARING! What’s your problem that you don’t expect workers to ******EARN******** THEIR PAY, HUH?

And as a customer i would get up from my table and splash u with the first thing handy.

I would report you to the police for ASSAULT, so you wouldn’t win. What kind of MEAN person would resort to VIOLENCE over doing a lot of work, huh? What a LAZY and MEAN person you are.

Yes they are there to serve u, not slave over u.

Actually they are, because they want **********MY MONEY CALLED A *TIP********** AT THE END OF THE SERVICE, SO THEY ARE AT MY MERCY IF THEY WANT MY MONEY. That’s how a job is. It’s (********WORK************) NOT PLAYTIME!

You sound **********EXTREMELY LAZY************* TO SAY THIS!! Earning your pay, what a concept that you can’t get money just for doing a few things, that you actually have to BUST YOUR ASS for the money, HMMMMM, WHAT A CONCEPT!!

And if i had to wait an extra hour so u could bitch and keep calling server from doing his job for each petty entitlement you think ur owed, i would have to turn ur table over.

What do you mean from doing “his job?” His job is to do what *I* say since *I* am *********PAYING************** THE TIP HERE, NOT YOU THE OWNER OF THE RESTAURANT!

It doesn’t matter what you want, it matters what the person is paying wants.

If you want things a certain way, PAY MY FUCKING TIP BITCH! THEN YOU GET TO HAVE CONTROL OVER MY SERVICE!! Until then, you have ZERO control over my service. Now you can refuse to serve me as any business can. But I haven’t done anything wrong for you to discriminate against me just because I order modifications in my orders. Discrimination is against the law, did you realize that? You are discriminating against people that order modified orders that want their servers to earn their pay. At least I ask for EVERYTHING at once unlike some customers that run their servers. I am at least CONSIDERATE with that.

      too of demanding,

I am not too demanding. I don’t demand. I *********ASK NICELY*********** FOR WHAT I WANT. If you think asking for modifications nicely is “demanding”, then you are VERY LAZY of a worker yourself!

I am not telling my server “Get me such-n-such.” I am saying “I would like the burger medium well with only lettuce, onions, cheddar cheese, and bacon extra crispy only.” For example I don’t say “GIVE ME THIS”, because I am nice person.

It’s discrimination if you are going to not let someone in your establishment because they order modifications on their orders. That’s ILLEGAL! You can’t discriminate against people for that.

Now if they are disorderly as you said, that’s a 100% completely different story, that’s very legal to throw someone out for that. I am not that AT ALL!

because of this kind of abuse against hard working people like my team.

I have NEVER abused a server before. WHERE ARE YOU GETTING THIS FROM, HUH? I am NICER THAN MOST ARE TO ME. I at least apologize if I forget to ask for something, which most servers don’t say they are sorry when they mess up. Also, I tell them “Thank you” even though they didn’t apologize when they have messed up something. I also say “thank you” BEFORE I even get my request like if I am asking for a refill, I say “thank you” when they say “Sure.”

I don’t understand what’s your problem and WHY you think I am not nice, huh?

I ask “Can I get another coke?” They say “Sure”, which I say “thank you” even BEFORE they get it and AFTER they get it. I even say please at times even. I always say thank you though. There were only a few times I haven’t if the server has been mean or rude to me constantly throughout the service, then I may leave out one or two thank you’s because they were treating us like crap, but 99.9% of the time, I am MUCH NICER than they are.

Without them my business would be nothing

Without me as a worker you are LOSING MONEY, because I bust ass as a worker. I work hard. I got a raise within a month and a half at my very first job back in 1998 at a donut shop/diner. 35 cents raise from $5.15(min. wage back then)-$5.50 an hour. Most people that age(I was 20yrs old) can’t say that. You may say most people work at least 5yrs before that, well my parents wanted me to concentrate on school, so they didn’t want me to work before that.

that my servers dont earn their money.

How is that “disgusting” to say you should WORK YOUR HARDEST BY BUSTING YOUR ASS FOR YOUR MONEY, HUH? That’s what slaves do, except the difference is that slaves don’t earn money, which servers do. Otherwise, they are one in the same. It’s not disgusting to want someone not lazy and uncaring like yourself! That’s NORMAL!

Why would anyone say servers aren’t slaves if they were willing to BUST THEIR ASS, HUH? You wouldn’t mind doing extra work if you weren’t lazy. YOU ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT IT, so you are LAZY about it. That IS THE TRUTH! You’d LOVE to do the extra work and wouldn’t mind at all if you were a go-getter.

I don’t just tip that low unless it’s like a $12 check or something like if I am eating by myself or something.

        I get it, ur stupid

YOU ARE that you think you should control someone else’s money.

        Being unduly harrassed

I am not harassing servers here.

        God complex.

I hold the money, you don’t, so I have a right to tell you how I want to spend it, NOT YOU! You have ZERO rights just like when someone offers to pay for something you have to do what they want since they are paying.

        Answer this:

Once, we waited at a fine dining restaurant 10 minutes to get fully greeted(Our waitress said “I’ll be right with you.” We had a water boy bring me water. I didn’t touch it, not a sip. All I wanted was a dr. pepper and I was going to order a bar drink, but the dr. pepper was much more important since I was thirsty. Anyway, we waited 10 minutes. Do you think it made *ANY* sense for the water boy to waste his time, to waste water, to waste glass to wash, to waste a lemon slice, effort, ice, and time to get me something I didn’t want or would it have been more efficient to get my soft drink order at least and gotten me a dr. pepper? It doesn’t make sense to do it your way. It makes sense to satisfy the *INDIVIDUAL* customer in each party that may or may not want water. The restaurant could have saved money on water(not only to drink, but to wash with), soap, ice, and the dirty glass that needed washing once it got to our table even if I didn’t touch it.

That’s stupid. It wasted our time and other customers time as well as took up glasses unnecessary as well as having to buss that glass for nothing.

You shouldn’t be trying to control the customer’s experience when you aren’t *PAYING* for that option.

That’s why I am saying you should treat all your customers like Kings and Queens getting them every little thing they want. ASK if they would like water. WHY NOT? You can save yourself work. I refused water, so has my husband a lot of times too. It just wastes time. NOT EVERYONE is the same, SO WTF treat them like that, huh?

If they are paying, WHY NOT take what *THEY* want into consideration rather than YOUR CONTROL FREAK SELF THAT HAS TO HAVE CONTROL? What’s your issue with control? WHY do you have to MAKE us have water? What if we don’t want it? WHY should you MAKE us have something on our table that is IN OUR WAY?

      • springs1 Says:

Think of how it felt to wait 10 minutes for a dr. pepper and how pissed I was the water boy could have had TIME to get me what I *DID* want and did what the owner wanted? I could have been much happier having what I did want and the water boy wouldn’t have wasted time, money for the restaurant, and had a repeat customer more often instead, because we would have been much happier.

Because they were LAZY and UNCARING and NOT LIKE ME, A HARD WORKER! One of them STOLE, REFUSED to give back someone at my table $9 of his change said she didn’t have a change bank. THAT’S THEFT! You can’t do that.

Two others were rude. One waitress said “That’s the HOSTESS’S JOB” when I told her some of the complaints I had since she was so horrible. You don’t say that to a customer. It’s not the hostess’s job once we have gotten our drinks. I had told her “I had to ask for utensils twice.” That’s when she said “That’s the Hostess’s job” to my face. You can’t do that. No customer should have to ask for utensils or if they do because you forgot, once is the most you should have to ask for something basic like that.

You honestly believe that refusing service because a customer is petty, overly demanding and views servers as slaves is “discrimination” and illegal. Hahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhahaha… Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha…

Discrimination is only illegal when it is based upon a persons gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, age or disability.
You gave me a good laugh Spring… discriminating against you because you are a horrible customer is not illegal… as a matter of fact it is PERFECTLY legal and also at the discretion of the owner and possibly even your server depending on the circumstances.
I’ll hand it to you, some restaurants may put up with your bs but when they have had enough they will do everything they can to make sure you DON’T come back (most likely backed by the owner). I have seen it happen, regular customers come in and think because they are spending 20 dollars on dinner that they are in a position to be degrading and abusive towards staff that are in a paid position that doesn’t allow them to retaliate. After you have been a negative customer enough times then no one wants your money any more or your business. Not your server and not the owners.
You can’t not pay me enough to sacrifice my dignity for you. If you feel like I am a slave then I would kindly hand you your tip back and then pay you on top to not come back. I don’t need your tip that bad and I don’t even need my job that bad… because for every one of pathetic people like you are 20 more customers who are actually upstanding, patient and pleasant that I am more than happy to wait on because they treat me like a human being. For every serving job there are twenty more down the street hiring.
Learn to respect people, it will get you far in life. I feel sorry for you because you seem like a miserable person with an inferiority complex. Did you get enough hugs as a child? Did you have friends growing up? I wonder how someone turns into someone like you.

    • springs1 Says:

      Lauren
“because a customer is petty, overly demanding”

But that’s not who I am. I am not overly demanding. I don’t tell my server in a mean way what I want. I ask them**********NICELY********* for what I want. If you think asking for a lot of things is demanding, you are VERY LAZY AND NOWHERE NEAR A HARD WORKER LIKE I AM!

You servers are petty too that I haven’t seen ONE server take out CENTS out of their pocket to fix a wrong price that they COULD HAVE. I have had before twice 4 cents overcharges on the same margarita I ordered as it came off the menu TWICE at some restaurant $4.99 they charged instead of $4.95, NEITHER server took their own money out their own pocket, WHY? Because they are PETTY TOO! I also had another overcharge of 2 cents when I ordered eggs that were $1.49 each, which I ordered 2, but when the check came, I was charged $3.00 for them instead of $2.98. The waitress did *NOT* get 2 cents out of her own pocket considering servers have change banks on them, did she? NO she didn’t. YOU ALL ARE JUST AS PETTY AS THE CUSTOMERS! LOOK IN THE MIRROR BEFORE YOU TELL US SOMETHING, GOT IT?

      “views servers as slaves”

Because you are there to do a *JOB*, NOT fun time IDIOT! If you don’t view your job as a slave you are *NOT* a hard worker.

“Discrimination is only illegal when it is based upon a persons gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, age or disability.”

No, it’s *******ANY********** REASON YOU ARE DISCRIMINATING AGAINST SOMEONE.

“you are a horrible customer ”

I am not a horrible customer. You think because I make my servers *******EARN******* THEIR TIP that I am “horrible”, WTF??? SERIOUSLY, YOU’VE GOT SOMETHING MISSING IN YOUR BRAIN, SERIOUSLY!

I am VERY NICE, actually *NICER* THAN THEY ARE HONESTLY! I a lot of times don’t get a “SORRY ABOUT THAT” when they mess up when I tell them nicely about a mistake or when they even remember all on their own without me telling them, YET, I STILL SAY ****THANK YOU****, so SEE WHO IS THE NICER PERSON OUT OF THE BUNCH, HUH?

“PERFECTLY legal and also at the discretion of the owner and possibly even your server depending on the circumstances.”

Owner can say who they don’t want in their restaurant, you are correct about that, but the server cannot make that call.

But you are discriminating me because I order a lot of modifications, not because I am being a disturbing customer to other guest. There’s a HUGE DIFFERENCE between a customer that makes a scene vs. someone that just is a picky eater. YOU KNOW THAT IS THE GOD’S TRUTH!

      ” your bs ”

What BS? May I ask what are you talking about?

” they are in a position to be degrading and abusive towards staff ”

That’s the thing you are assuming. I DO NOT BE MEAN TO THESE SERVERS UNLESS THEY HAVE BEEN MEAN TO ME FIRST AND EVEN THEN, 99.9% OF THOSE TIMES I WAS STILL NICE ANYWAY!

“If you feel like I am a slave then I would kindly hand you your tip back and then pay you on top to not come back.”

If you feel you aren’t a slave, then WHAT do think the word *******JOB******* MEANS, HUH? WHY do you feel that you don’t want to *******WORK********* FOR YOUR MONEY, HUH? Why you don’t want to *EARN* your pay, huh?

You are there to get us EVERY SINGLE THING WE WANT so then in return, you get what you want a big fat tip.

“because they treat me like a human being.”

But you servers don’t treat us like human beings. You treat us like dollar signs. I mean, for example, a waitress I have talked about on here that said “I don’t add it up” when she overcharged us $1.50 on a price, do you think that’s right to not *CARE* *******EQUALLY********** about our money if they want us to care about *THEIR* money, huh? That waitress treated us like DOLLAR SIGNS, NOT LIKE WE ARE HUMAN, UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM GETTING AT, HUH?

Treat me like my money is your money by showing you care, so we can care about your money. Servers money is not holier than thou. Your money is any more important than mine nor is my money any more important than yours, it’s *EQUALLY* just as important.

Treat us like PEOPLE. WE ARE PEOPLE. If she was would have treated us like human beings, she would have added it up, by rounding in her head $21.99 would be $22 plus $4.99 would be $5, 2 plus 5 is 7, NOT 8, so the price couldn’t have been $28.48.

See, you don’t seem to get that the server has to care about our money if you want us to care about your money.

That’s not treating us like human beings, is it? Answer please, I’d really like to know your answer.

“Learn to respect people, it will get you far in life. ”

I do, as I said before, I say “Thank you” and ask *NICELY* for the things I want. YET, most servers cannot for some weird reason be DECENT enough to say they are sorry when they mess up, for real.

The blogger who wrote this article (it’s the only article in their blog) has made some incendiary remarks to commenters in my article “Restaurant Customers who Don’t Tip” and has even resorted to namecalling and insulting my readers. This blogger evidently has issues with restaurant servers and really shouldn’t be eating out, since someone like this is unlikely to ever leave a restaurant happy, and probably makes both wait staff and management miserable with their nitpicky demands.

Although I welcome dissenting opinions on my blog, trollish behavior is never acceptable, and I have warned this user that any further trollish comments will be edited or removed. I want to keep a peaceful website.

Out of curiosity, I clicked on Spring1’s profile and found their blog with its single article. I was shocked at the venom spewed toward restaurant servers and thought it should be called out, so I’m reblogging it. I find it interesting that it’s their first article and has 112 comments but not one like.

I hope I’m not opening a can of worms here but this blogger should be called out. Until I published my article about customers who don’t tip, I had no idea this was such a controversial issue.

    • springs1 Says:

      “nitpicky demands.”

You sound LAZY. There’s NO SUCH THING as nitpicky demands. Also, asking nicely is not demanding anyone.

” trollish behavior is never acceptable,”

I am not trolling though. You are acting like servers are above everyone else in this world. It doesn’t matter if they are a single parent. Tipping has ZERO to do with that. Also, it really bothers me big time that you condone that a server can be rude to us customers, but we can’t be rude to you all. NOBODY SHOULD BE RUDE TO ANYONE! I don’t care if you had a table of customers that was mean, don’t take it out on the nice people that haven’t treated you like that.

Being rude is NEVER acceptable PERIOD from either party(server or customer).

      • luckyotter Says:

I am not lazy, I work very hard at what I do, even though I have never waited tables, my son HAS and he is a very dedicated and hardworking server and has MANY customers who spefically ask for his tables, BECAUSE HE IS THAT GOOD. He usually makes very good tips. This one group of 50 was trying to get out of leaving a tip, thinking it was automatically taken out. They were not unhappy with the service. No one is taking out anything on anyone. Obviously you have a vendetta against servers in general and stereotype them all as lazy stupid people. And that is just not true. Most work very hard and WANT to please the customers.
No, being rude is not acceptable for either servers or customers.
From now on I will be reading your posts carefully and not approving all of them, or editing them, because I will not tolerate namecalling on my blog, especially to my readers. .

      • springs1 Says:

“Most work very hard and WANT to please the customers.”

Sorry, but you are just VERY WRONG, here’s why:

        1. Most servers don’t write *EVERYTHING* down you ask for(that includes boxes, bags, etc.).
        2. A lot of servers do what is called “Auctioning off drinks” like for example, “Who had the coke”, “Who had the sprite”, etc. instead of going by their written order and finding out, they make the CUSTOMER do their job for them.
        3. I don’t know one server that compares the menu prices to the check prices to make sure the customer isn’t overcharged, which they should since they want your money, they should *CARE* about it.
        4. A lot of servers when double or triple sat won’t make separate trips to the computer to put orders into the computer, they will be too lazy and wait until they get all 2 or 3 table’s orders in, instead of putting each table in as it comes. This is very lazy and it causes the food to get unnecessarily delayed for no real reason. It’s bad for the server too since they want more table to make more money due to the food taking longer because they delayed putting the orders into the computer, but they are too lazy to think in that manner.
        5. Some servers will not make separate trips for soft drinks when bar drinks are ordered for the same table. We could order an appetizer if my server came by and I could sip on my coke while the other person or people at my table wait for their bar drink. The others could have water during that time they are waiting for their bar drink.
6.A LOT of servers don’t offer you water with bar drinks, which is lazy.
        7. A LOT of servers, especially if it’s not your server that took the order, won’t verify their written order or ticket/kitchen computer screen order with the food for obvious errors.
        8. A LOT of servers that run your food to you that aren’t your server( a food runner or another server) won’t offer you anything like refills or even get you a forgotten item. They will make your server do it, causing an extra delay in your service unnecessarily.
        9. A lot of servers will ask if you want change. That’s just LAZY in-of-itself, because it should always be assumed the customer wants their change unless they tell their server so. If the customer leaves, guess what, the SERVER has *EARNED* their *FULL TIP FOR THEIR FULL JOB DONE*. By asking to shorten the trip to keep the tip without doing the 100% FULL ENTIRE JOB is just PLAIN LAZY and it’s VERY RUDE to ask for your tip. We have been asked if we wanted change when we paid with a credit card even due to that the credit card holder was broke, so the server couldn’t tell if we had money inside the credit card folder or not. That’s RIDICULOUS to ask that. Do your full job if you want your full tip. Don’t be lazy.
        10. I have had 4 or 5 servers tell me “You might have to remind me” when I ordered some condiments. I mean seriously, if I have to remind you, you aren’t getting a good tip. That’s just plain LAZY.
        11. I have had servers that asked “So what did you order” when they brought me my food, because they were too lazy to reread their written orders.

So can you HONESTLY tell me they work very hard and want to please their customers? They aren’t even TRYING at ALL MOST of the times. THAT IS THE GOD’S HONEST TRUTH! WE HAVE LIVED THROUGH THIS STUFF, FOR REAL. In my next post, I will give you some examples.

      • springs1 Says:

My husband and I had gone to try a certain Mexican restaurant(Andale) for OUR FIRST TIME and ONLY TIME. I ordered the nachos with shredded chicken for the appetizer nachos. Look at this on the menu:

“NACHOS DE LA CASA – Choice of ground beef
or shredded chicken, topped w/lettuce, pico de gallo,
        sour cream, jalapenos and beans……………………………………………..7.25
        w/Steak ……………………………………………………………………………………8.25
        w/Shrimp ……………………………………………………………………………….9.25”

        http://andalemargaritasgrill.com/menu.html

This is from the internet menu(this happened a number of years ago) and it is just like this on the menu inside the restaurant. I didn’t specially order something not on the menu. We received grilled chicken from our waitress that you can *SEE* it wasn’t right, but I didn’t know since I don’t work there you know. An option not on the menu for this appetizer even I DID NOT ORDER., HOW PATHETIC can you get, you don’t agree?

My chimchanga I specifically said shredded chicken.

        3. When she put the order in for the chimichanga, assuming she most likely didn’t put it in correctly that she overcharged me on that, so she could have compared the menu to that item she was ringing up.

She could have caught everything except for the chicken inside my chimichanga since she would have had to cut that open. Everything else though was 100% HER FAULT. I really think though since my chimichanga was overcharged she rung it up wrong initially that she didn’t change it before she handed us the check.

So please stop saying that servers work hard, because most servers HONESTLY are like HER, didn’t compare the food, the order, and the check to what she was serving us. I knew more about the menu and pricing than she did, which she worked there, NOT ME. I wouldn’t have had to be trained to know DUH if I didn’t know the menu very well to compare it to what I was ringing up, like DUH, no training needed to know this.

The main issue is this: *******SHE PUT ZERO EFFORT INTO THE JOB TO GET ANYTHING RIGHT TO US*************! THAT IS LAZY AND VERY UNCARING! They don’t care about pleasing customers in most instances, they just feel they deserve 20% or 15% for serving you, that’s it. They don’t feel they have to *******WORK******* for their money.

We have been through a NUMBER of servers JUST LIKE THIS over they years, you’d be surprised at how lazy and dumb these servers seem. She seems dumb because *I* KNEW MORE THAN SHE DID about everything she gave us just about. THAT MAKES ZERO SENSE. All she had to do was compare the menu to what she was giving us along with her written order. To not even have an option on the menu and ringing something up the customer didn’t even say is just really WEIRD. I NEVER would order grilled chicken at a Mexican restaurant, because it’s too dry in my opinion. I always order shredded chicken. She made us not enjoy our food because of her laziness and lack of EFFORT on the job.

Do you understand WHY I have the attitude I have about servers? It’s not all servers, but a good 80% of them are lazy in general. They don’t want to do the WORK it truly takes to give GOOD, WONDERFUL service, The ones that do are rare and hard to find. This waitress we had though was really bad. Why should we pay someone that didn’t care? She didn’t even APOLOGIZE EVEN, so THAT IN-OF-ITSELF gives her a complete stiff for ALL the hell she put us through and was going to get a higher tip due to the higher check if we would have not noticed the overcharged, which is stealing. So she would have made more money off the mess up, not just the restaurant. I just feel these servers are dumb in that I have to show them on the *MENU* where something is. I don’t work there. I don’t expect them to memorize the menu as I said before, what they should do is when they are going to the computer, bring a menu with them, compare the description and the written order to what they are ringing up in the computer. That’s how you serve. You don’t just go and hand people food without knowing what you are doing. That’s crazy to do that. That’s EXTREMELY LAZY to do that. She sure didn’t give a care about pleasing us, did she? As I said what I would have done, how things could have been SOOO DIFFERENT of an outcome.

When you have experienced the hell we have, then come back, you would have a VERY DIFFERENT OPINION after and you know it.

“Obviously you have a vendetta against servers in general ”

No, against uncaring, lazy, and mean servers. I don’t have all of them. The ones that aren’t nice even. I couldn’t fathom not apologizing to a customer. When I worked at a donut shop/diner back in 1998-2002 off and on a little over 2yrs worth altogether, I apologized to people even in drive-thru for NO TIP when I messed up, so I can’t imagine when I would want someone’s money that I wouldn’t apologize. We did make min. wage plus tips, but 99.9% of people didn’t tip through drive-thru though, which is common sense though that most people don’t tip when they get food or drinks through a drive-thru in general.

NO I am NOT! I am not a bitch. I am TELLING THE TRUTH, YOU ARE LYING. WHY IS THAT, HUH? WHY LIE? I even gave you an opportunity to prove my 1st post to you wrong, so WHERE IS THE PROOF I AM WRONG, HUH? Where is the proof that you are lying? In my first post to you is where it is at.

      • City Girl Yogi Says:

Unless you serve and experience anything like servers do, it would be impossible to “prove” anything to an arrogant person such as yourself. Hence, all the other hate comments you receive. You must be so proud of the title you have made for yourself. Do some yoga or meditating seems like you need it 🙂

      • springs1 Says:

See you can’t find ONE FLAW of my FACTS, CAN YOU STUPID BITCH?

      • springs1 Says:

” it would be impossible to “prove” anything to an arrogant person such as yourself. ”

HOW, go line by line, let’s see:

        1. They can put in the order wrong into the computer. – *I* have personally done this before at the donut shop/diner. If you put it in wrong, how is it going to be cooked or prepared the correct way, huh?

        2. Servers can also misunderstand what the customer is saying such as 2 times when I ordered 2 sides of bbq sauce and the stupid idiot servers thought I didn’t want bbq sauce on my ribs when I NEVER ONCE SAID I didn’t and I didn’t say “ON THE SIDE”, I SAID SIDES, which means extra. One of those times I said extra even.

This one really did happen. There’s a HUGE DIFFERENCE between “on the side” and “sides.” Sides is in ADDITION to what’s on the menu already. Those people didn’t know their menu very well, did they? They assumed, which that’s not how you take an order *EVER*!

        3. . Condiments of any kind regardless of who brings out the food can be brought out by the server ahead of time.

I have had a number of servers throughout the years do this ALL ON THEIR OWN WITHOUT me ASKING for them to do this. They wanted to make sure they didn’t forget or another server didn’t forget it.(or more than likely that the other server wouldn’t read the ticket).

        4. If someone orders extra crispy bacon with their pancakes, then the bacon looks limp, not stiff, and you can even see some white fat on it, guess what? MY SERVER COULD HAVE SEEN THAT TOO AND TOLD THE COOKS IT WASN’T CORRECT, TO RECOOK IT INSTEAD OF BRINGING IT TO ME WRONG IN THE FIRST PLACE!

You can tell in this picture above the bacon is very crispy just by simply LOOKING at it.

You can tell in this picture above the bacon is NOT CRISPY, just by simple LOOKING at the bacon.

While the server didn’t “COOK” the bacon, it’s obvious to the *SERVER’S* EYES that one batch of bacon is crispy and the other isn’t to decide to BRING the food to the customer wrong or not. It’s my server’s fault if they decide to bring me the bacon that’s like in picture 2 if I ordered it crispy that she or he didn’t tell the cooks it was wrong and get them to cook the bacon more instead of SERVING it wrong. WHY bring it out only for the food to be sent back?

        5. Any wrong side dishes or entrees are the fault of the server if they bring out the food even if they put in the order right. You can tell the difference between a baked potato and mac n’ cheese, yet, a waiter at Logan’s Roadhouse was so stupid as to bring me mac n’ cheese when I ordered a baked potato. I noticed it within 5 seconds of the food hitting my table. Like DUH a baked potato looks completely different from mac n’ cheese.

When you are at your house, which your friend asks for an apple, you bring them an orange, whose fault it is? It’s yours, NOT your friend’s fault or ANYONE ELSE’S FAULT but YOURS!

        6. Any MISSING side dishes, appetizers, condiments, or entrees ARE the server’s fault if they bring out the food as well. Have had that happen a few times or so. Our servers aren’t blind, so they can tell if something is missing or not.

ARE YOU BLIND OR ILLITERATE, that’s the question I should ask my server if they bring me my food or if it’s another server, if the order was put in correctly, are they blind or illiterate?

        7. If something LOOKS burnt such as a piece of bread with the food and the person didn’t order it burnt, my server is at fault for serving me that.

It’s INHUMANE to do this to another human being.

        8. If my server forgets an item that an entree or appetizer comes with, that’s their fault if they brought me my food without the item such as a side dish or ranch.

When you forget something, it’s on YOU if you bring me my food and if it’s a condiment, it’s on YOU ENTIRELY since you could have brought that stuff out ahead of time.

        9. . I have ordered at Outback my fries “lightly cooked” “Not overdone and yellow not brown.” I have had their fries before cooked the way I like them before many of times before this time I am talking about. This stupid waitress decided to blame the kitchen staff for REALLY DARK BROWN FRIES as if she was blind or something and my husband even told me he could see that they were really dark. My husband may not agree with me on every subject of course, but with that, you could EASILY tell just by LOOKING that those fries were overdone and very dark. She said she put in the order correctly. I am thinking, SO? I wish I could have said “Are you blind?” That was HER FAULT she DECIDED TO SERVE ME THOSE FRIES THAT WEREN’T CORRECT. I noticed the mistake within 3 seconds of my food being placed in front of me.

If you are TOO STUPID TO *LOOK* at fries, I can’t help you there.

You can clearly see the fries are overdone in the picture above if the customer ordered them “NOT OVERDONE, lightly cooked.”

In this picture above, you can see the fries don’t appear overdone and the bacon is NOT CRISPY. If a customer asked for their bacon to be crispy, I would REFUSE to serve it and I would have enough CARING and COMMON SENSE to get that fixed **BEFORE** I brought it to the customer only to have the customer send it back or leave me a bad tip for not caring about their food.

Most of the time, my server can *CATCH* the issue ************BEFORE******************** IT GETS TO ME! THAT IS THE GOD’S HONEST TO GOD TRUTH!

STOP FUCKING LYING STUPID DITSY IGNORANT BITCH!

  36. Ashley Says:

I agree with you on some of the comments you made such as when a guest walks in alone I just simply would say hello welcome to …… Would you like a table or booth? And ask them of they want anything to drink and most of the time they will let you know if they are waiting for someone.
But also I just want to apologize if any one offered you terrible service because it does happen! And we aren’t always perfect and some make mistakes but a lot of us are actually great servers and not lazy as you assume… So please don’t put all us servers in the same boat as “LAZY and STUPID” just because you don’t agree with the common courtesy 95% of everyday dine in customers greatly appreciate such as, us giving them refills.
We understand there are extra picky customers like you and I’m pretty sure all of had at least one. Just understand the majority of the time we give refills because we don’t like having our customers ask for it and majority of the people who come in expect it because they are free. It’s not laziness, it’s common courtesy and it’s want the majority wants and if you don’t like it, well sorry. We aren’t gonna know what you don’t want off the bat. We served thousands of people who have different and yet similar needs and wants and you’re just the rare ones. And trust me, if you were a server and asked every new table you get if they are gonna want refills, they will look at you like you like “duhh” haha. Honestly , I’m not trying to be mean you do seems very bitter and unhappy and want to find things to be mad about. Why make life hard for yourself? Next time you walk in a restaurant and a server is trying to offer you good service just smile and say “no thank you” and I promise you won’t stress yourself out over nothing….and for the whole tip thing… Yes we understand it’s your money. Ok. No one is trying to control you, that’s absurd. Calm down. If you want to find little reasons to lessen the tip, fine. Because many of these servers have great customers everyday who appreciate their service and common courtesy to make that up. Oh and I’m sure you don’t know this… There’s customers out there who even tip half of what their bill was. Thank you.
Ps. be positive, life will be better for you.

    • springs1 Says:

if you were a server and asked every new table you get if they are gonna want refills, they will look at you like you like “duhh” haha.

You don’t ask if they are going to want refills, usually they will, you ask if they will want refills automatically without being asked or asking is what you should ask. Not everyone wants that. It’s not your money, so it’s honestly, NOT YOUR DECISION. It’s OUR TIP MONEY, OUR DECISION.

      it’s common courtesy

It’s not common courtesy to do what you want to do with someone else’s tip money. It’s not your money to decide thing.

We aren’t gonna know what you don’t want off the bat.

That’s why if I wanted that type of service since a lot of servers DON’T give refills without asking, I would *ORDER* that way. You know by ASKING at the greeting “Some people like refills without asking throughout their service, is this something you all would be interested in?” I don’t care if one in one month wants it, it’s not your money to do just majoritie’s wants.

      it’s want the majority wants

If you aren’t getting a one lump sum tip, then WHY ware you serving by majority then? If you know that everyone is different and likes different things, why not serve in that manner rather than going by majority? Why are you serving as if “YOU” are PAYING FOR THE SERVICE? I mean you want things your way, YOU PAY THE CUSTOMER A TIP THEN. That’s how you want it. Don’t you want what you want for YOUR MONEY? SO DO WE. I am not going to tell you “don’t bring me water, don’t bring me my check without asking, don’t bring me ketchup, etc. That’s not my job to ONE-UP my server that will assume and order for me. It’s up to my SERVER to ASK ME. You are there to ask me.

WHAT IS SOOOOOO HORRIBLE ABOUT ASKING if a customer wants a refill? If you don’t want to interrupt their conversations, as I said before, you ask at the greeting. This way, you know if they will. Some people at the same table may want refills without asking and some may not. This way you make EVERYONE HAPPY rather than just majority.

Yes we understand it’s your money.

If you understood it, you won’t try to spend it on yourself by trying to serve the way you feel everyone wants to be served when you know not everyone does.

with the common courtesy 95% of everyday dine in customers greatly appreciate such as, us giving them refills.

I want refills. I just want to be *******************ASKED********************************************* FIRST! Did you not *READ* what I said? Even if I end up wanting the refill, it pisses me off that they did something without MY PERMISSION since it’s MY MONEY. You don’t understand that it’s our money. You say you do, but you don’t. It’s not your money to decide with what will happen next at our table to be served. It’s OUR MONEY, OUR DECISIONS COMPLETELY. If we want to order dessert first, then order an appetizer last or if we want a side salad served with our meal or a beer served with our meal rather than beforehand, we should get EVERY WISH AS OUR WANT FOR OUR MONEY. That’s how tipping should work and you know it.

      say “no thank you”

THIS REALLY, REALLY, REALLY PISSES ME THE FUCK OFF!! HOW DARE YOU TELL ME TO “THANK” SOMEONE THAT WASTED MY TIME FIXING ME AND GETTING ME A REFILL THAT I AM GOING TO SEND THEM BACK BECAUSE I WANTED TO SWITCH TO COKE INSTEAD OF DR. PEPPER!! When I say “Can I have a coke instead” when you bring me another dr. pepper, your words should be “SORRY ABOUT THAT”, because it’s YOU messing up, NOT ME. I am NOT going to thank someone that got my order wrong by ASSUMING and PURPOSELY ORDERING FOR ME. It’s not even a mistake. A mistake is something unintentional, you INTENTIONALLY ORDERED FOR ME WITHOUT MY PERSONAL PERMISSION. HOW DARE YOU TELL ME TO TELL SOMEONE “THANK YOU” FOR GETTING MY ORDER WRONG!

WHERE IS MY SORRY AT IS WHAT I AM WONDERING?

At Red Lobster, I originally ordered dr. pepper, then when he came with refills without asking, I asked him nicely “Can I get a coke instead?” Instead of saying he was sorry for getting my order wrong(since EACH drink is an order that can be changed), NO, he looked pissed and just walked off. LIKE HELL I DID NOT EVEN THINK TO EVER SAY “THANK YOU” TO SOMEONE THAT WAS MEAN LIKE THAT. HOW can you say it’s “common courtesy” to WASTE MY TIME and you want me to thank someone to do so, wth???

The waiter should have apologized. He should have apologized, because he guessed wrong that I wanted another of the same drink. It’s still a soft drink refill, just another flavor of it.

I sure as hell will NEVER “thank” someone for purposely getting my order wrong because they decided to either be too lazy to come to ask or that they wanted to go by majority rather than individuality as service is SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE. Service is an INDIVIDUAL service, that’s why you get an “INDIVIDUAL TIP” from each table. That table over there may want refills without asking and their check without asking, while we want to be offered dessert and not have refills without asking. You NEVER serve by majority, then you will NEVER get anything wrong by GUESSING WRONG as far as the “guessing game” you want to play with your customers goes.

I honestly feel since we have gotten A LOT of servers over the years that don’t give refills without asking at restaurants we had never been to even or even out of town, even out of state even, so to those that want refills without being asked, they honestly should ****************ORDER THAT WAY AT THE GREETING*************** to not PUNISH the ones that want and LIKE interaction with their servers. I like chatting with my servers.

For example, the only thing at Chili’s I use the new kiosk thing for on their tables is to pay the check, but otherwise, I don’t care to order from it. The entire idea of going out to eat is to have some interaction with servers. We got sometimes just to chat with our favorite servers assuming of course IF it’s not busy of course. Even if it’s busy, we still at least get good service from them and they know how I don’t want refills without asking and do as I want. They didn’t do that from the get go as to why I wanted them again.

Why make life hard for yourself?

You are by not asking your tables if they want refills without asking. I bet you will be SURPRISED as to HOW MANY PEOPLE REALLY DON’T LIKE THIS. I want you to give it a try for a week and then come tell me the results. Especially if you are pouring iced tea rather than giving them a fresh glass. A lot of iced tea drinkers don’t like mixing old tea with new tea. I find when I get iced tea myself it gets watery if it’s been sitting since ice does melt. I don’t want lemon in tea, but I order it without lemon since that’s how iced tea is served. The thing is, with people that do like lemon, I am willing to bet a lot of them want a new slice of lemon with each refill.

You are making your life harder by not asking ONE QUESTION at the BEGINNING of the service. WHY REFUSE TO DO THAT? SO WHAT if people act like “well duh”, because you know that not everyone wants that. Here’s some people that agree with me:

This is a former server’s way she was trained:

      http://1000awesomethings.com/2008/06/30/994-waiters-who-bring-free-refills-without-asking/

She feels they might want something else. That’s my entire point here. The idea is that she *CARES*, UNLIKE THE LIKES OF YOU, she “CARES” about INDIVIDUAL PEOPLE’S FEELINGS AND TIME. You are not there to spend your tip money. You are there to want people to voluntarily want to give money to you. HOW do you think you do that? BY PLEASING THEM *PERSONALLY*, NOT because 95% of people want something, but because “they” specifically you were treating them with the service they wanted. Don’t you want your customers to not treat you like majority. You just said to not label all servers as lazy, but you are doing the same to us labeling us as all the same. What a hypocrite you are.

Here’s some customers that disagrees with you:

      http://www.reviewstream.com/reviews/?p=4414

Famous said: “I’m the type of iced tea lover who’s extremely picky about the teas I drink. When in restaurants, I hate when the waitress refills my iced-tea glass without asking-completely disturbing my perfect tea/sugar ratio.”

      http://www.yelp.com/biz/outback-steakhouse-sterling-2?start=40

Dave P. said: “I’m an iced tea drinker, so I generally like to finish a glass before it’s refilled. When a partially empty glass gets refilled, it borks my sugar to tea ratio!”

      http://www.planetfeedback.com/index.php?level2=blog_viewpost&topic_id=302338&reply_id=147885

Peter S. said: “recently dined at Gordon Bierch in San Diego. I ordered a Coke with my meal and when asked if i wanted a refill, I requested to have a refill of root beer instead of Coke.”

See how people can switch. I have, my husband has, etc. Sometimes people don’t want the same drink. It’s BAD SERVICE to do refills without asking. If the customer wants that, *THEY* should ORDER THAT WAY AT THE GREETING ASKING FOR THIS if they feel it bothers them. To me, I LOVE when I have a server ask me, because it shows they ****CARE***** about NOT WASTING MY TIME.

See all these people that 100% TOTALLY DISAGREE with you, even a SERVER did that DID the job. She sure didn’t think it was common courtesy and she was a SERVER HERSELF. WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU, HUH?

It’s not common courtesy to give people controlled service. You are there to please them, NOT YOURSELF and NOT just majority. You are there to please THEM INDIVIDUALLY.

      • Ashley Says:

That’s only the 2%, Hun. Besides, if anyone didn’t want their lousy refill I’m pretty sure they will let the server know first. You on the other hand likes to complain and probably rude to everyone who serves you. You’re just really sad and angry for whatever the real reason may be…..I’ll pray for you. 🙂

      • springs1 Says:

        “That’s only the 2%, Hun. ”

Well if that’s your attitude, you’d get a 2% tip from me UNCARING CONTROLLING BITCH! FUCK YOU!! IT’S NOT YOUR MONEY TO SPEND YOU CONTROL FREAK BITCH!

“Besides, if anyone didn’t want their lousy refill I’m pretty sure they will let the server know first.”

Those people didn’t, did they? The ones that want refills without asking should be ordering that way if that’s how they want refills since not every server serves that way and you know it.

WHY should they have to tell their server not to assume/order for their customers, huh? They shouldn’t. I shouldn’t be ONE-UPPING YOU on assumptions. You are there to please me personally so I can please you personally with a nice tip. That’s how tipping works. You give me what *I* want, I give you what *YOU* want personally.

” You on the other hand likes to complain”

NO, I want what *I* want for *MY* money. HOW HARD IS THAT TO UNDERSTAND?

I want perfect service. I don’t want problems. I want things to go the way *I* want them to go. WHY is that so hard for you to understand? Don’t you want that 20% or more tip? You do, so WHY can’t I feel the same way that I want the service the way *I* want for *MY* money, huh?

“probably rude to everyone who serves you. ”

NO, I am NICER than most servers. I tell them “thank you” even though they didn’t apologize. That’s how much NICER I AM than most servers are to us.

I am not rude. You are being rude to order for your customers. That’s not common courtesy, that’s CONTROLLING spending someone else’s tip money on yourself. It’s not your service. You don’t own it to decide things about it. WHAT IS IT WITH YOU AND CONTROL that you feel the need to do this? WHY NOT JUST ASK ONE FREAKIN QUESTION?

As I said, you won’t admit that I am right to try it for a week, see how it goes and then come to tell me how wrong I am. I’d like you to do that. I bet you won’t like what you see and you know it.

WHY would you not want to SATISFY *****************100%****************** of people, huh? WHY ARE YOU SOOOO FUCKING OPPOSED TO *********************ASKING******************ONE FUCKING QUESTION, HUH? I don’t understand? I REALLY DON’T. WHAT AN UNCARING, LAZY ASS BITCH YOU ARE. It is about laziness that you don’t want to come to the table each time to ask for every refill. You KNOW that is what this is about, DON’T LIE LAZY ASS BITCH! COME ON, TELL ME THE TRUTH, ISN’T THAT REALLY WHY YOU DON’T WANT TO ASK IF THE CUSTOMERS WANT REFILLS WITHOUT BEING ASKED THROUGHOUT THEIR SERVICE AT THE GREETING?

You are rude to tell me how to spend my money by ordering for me. Ordering for me is rude. WHO THE HELL ARE YOU A STRANGER TELLING ME WHAT I WANT TO DRINK NEXT. WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TO TELL ME THAT CONTROL FREAK UNCARING BITCH, HUH?

        “You’re just really sad ”

NO, I am not sad, I am mad at the lazy and uncaring bitches like yourselves that don’t want to satisfy EVERYONE to “CARE” in your heart of that 2% of people.

WHY NOT CARE about 100%? WHY do that to 2%? Why not just ASK ONE QUESTION? HOW IS THAT SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HORRIBLE, HUH?

Asking one question is not going to hurt your tip. I honestly think you KNOW I am right that you try it for a week and get proven wrong. You will see, just try it for a week, just a week and see your results. Don’t tell me lies now, I mean you have to do it for EVERY TABLE each shift for a week. See what people say. I bet you will get people that are HAPPY that they didn’t have their time wasted when all they wanted was their check, but you got them refills they weren’t going to drink because they were in a hurry to leave.

You are a MEAN CONTROL FREAK BITCH, FUCK YOU!

WHY do you not care about that 2% of people? I don’t understand why you feel they should care about you? You are only not even 1% of the servers, so why should they care about your tip, huh? You are only one person, so why should they care about you if you don’t care about them, huh? How is that fair or right, huh?

      • springs1 Says:

Another thing, why did a *SERVER* HERSELF actually get *TRAINED* to ASK for refills if this was not a good thing, huh? I wasn’t even a part of that conversation, so this wasn’t me that said this. I also wasn’t a server ever, just counter help at the closest thing to a server.

She saw how people didn’t want another drink. They had some years ago, a lady that was pregnant didn’t want to drink but one glass of soft drink. This forum is not up anymore, but here is what was said that I had saved in word:

        http://www.etiquettehell.com/smf/index.php?topic=19233.15

Hijinks saids: “Usually if they ask, I’ll say I’d like to switch to water please – I’m only drinking full flavor pop while pregnant, to avoid aspartame – because I don’t need all of that sugar. So bringing me another Coke without asking is mildly annoying, but I’ll still drink it LOL”

I don’t care if it’s only 2% of people, WHY would you be SO GOD DAMN MF SELFISH TO NOT CARE ABOUT ****************EVERY CUSTOMER*******************, HUH? I don’t understand you selfish bitch?

      • Ashley Says:

Because my customers are gonna be angry and get crazy like you if I ask them for another refill because most of the time it’s very OBVIOUS they want one during their meal, genius. I want them happy! Oh trust me I care about my customers but When your rude from the get go and crazy I don’t care about your business nor tip from the get go. That’s the truth. You can shove it up your therapist’s Ass for all I care because in the end of the day I leave happy while you still mad at home typing on your little angry blog because you have no friends with your sad life. admit it , liar. you are sad and you know it. “Because my customers are gonna be angry and get crazy like you if I ask them for another refill because most of the time it’s very OBVIOUS they want one during their meal, genius.”

But I am not saying to ask them at every refill, I saying to ask when you *GREET* them if they want that type of service or not.

Also, WHY would they be mad over a simple question?

“it’s very OBVIOUS they want one during their meal, genius.”

It’s obvious that MIGHT want one, but MIGHT want a different drink as Ashley(the server) said on that website I quoted. The might not want the same drink is my point and her point.

        “I want them happy! ”

You want “THEM” happy, not everyone though. That’s what I don’t understand?

“Oh trust me I care about my customers”

No you don’t, you said you don’t care about 2% of the customers. YOU JUST SAID YOU DIDN’T.

“When your rude from the get go”

I am not rude. WHERE are you getting this from? I am actually NICER than most servers are to us.

        “liar. ”

I am not a liar, YOU ARE saying you care about your customers. If you did, you would ask if the customers want refills without being asked throughout their service when you greet them. THAT is what a caring server would do. You ADMITTED you DON’T care about the 2% of people like me. YOU ADMITTED SO! SO YOU ARE THE LIAR, NOT ME STUPID BITCH!!

        “Customers are always right”

NOT TRUE, I have been wrong before as a customer. I am not always right. I have been wrong before. I am not a liar like you are. I am honest.
